Clip dfsu file from polygon shapefile

Is there an easy way to clip a dfsu file from a polygon shapefile?

I can't find a way to clip a dfsu in mikeio other than the mikeio.read(dfsu, area =...) method.

It could be great to have the same functionality in the generic module (i.e. file-to-file), but no unfortunately not. This functionality is only available in read() and sel() method as far as I remember.
