How to install or reinstall TWiLight Menu
WARNING
When using this with SD cards that are 64GB or above, make sure Save FAT table cache
is disabled in the Games/Apps page of TWLMenu++ Settings. Your SD card may become corrupt, due to an issue with saved FAT tables by nds-bootstrap.
If it's already turned off when corruption happened, then it's due to an issue with libfat, or your SD card may be dying.
NOTE for 3DS/2DS users:
If you are coming from TWLoader, uninstall all of the TWLoader applications using a CIA manager (for example, FBI)
- In
sd:/_nds/
deleteTWiLightMenu
,nds-bootstrap
, andnds-bootstrap.ini
. - On a Nintendo 3DS Device, delete the TWiLight Menu++ titles using FBI.
- To re-install, proceed with any of the installation steps below.
- Download the latest version of TWiLight Menu++ Flashcard from the releases page.
- In the 7z file, put the
_nds
folder in the SD Card root. - Put the
boot.nds
file in the SD Card root. - Put the
roms
folder in the SD Card root. -
DSi/3DS users: Run TWLMenu++ on the console's SD card, and turn on
SCFG access in Slot-1
. You'll be able to use TWL clock speed and/or VRAM boost on your flashcard games, as well as accessing the console's SD card, as a result.
To run games using your flashcard firmware
- Extract what's in
Flashcart Loader/(your flashcard)
to the root of the flashcard's microSD card.
For these flashcards: R4i-SDHC, r4isdhc.com cards, r4isdhc.hk cards, R4i SDHC Upgrade Revolution, R4DSiXL3D, R4i Advance, R4-IIIi, R4 SDHC Revolution, R4(i) Pocket, R4i Gold (v1.4.1) (3DS) & R4xDS
, download YSMenu here. Make sure you have YSMenu.nds
on the flashcard SD root.
- After this and setting up TWiLight Menu++ on your flashcard, set
Use nds-bootstrap (B4DS)
toNo
, so the flashcard firmware will be used instead of nds-bootstrap.
To autoboot to TWLMenu++
- Extract what's in
Autoboot/(your flashcard)
to the root of the flashcard's microSD card. (Skip this, if you don't see your flashcard.) - DS Phat/DS lite users: Go to settings in the DS menu, and turn on auto-start, so your flashcard will start on boot.

DSi/3DS users: Run TWLMenu++ on the console's SD card, and turn on
Auto-start Slot-1
.
- Download the latest version of TWiLight Menu++ DSi from the releases page.
- In the 7z file, put the
_nds
folder in the SD Card root. - Put the
boot.nds
file in the SD Card root. - Put the
roms
folder in the SD Card root. - (HiyaCFW users) Extract what's in the
SDNAND root
folder, to the root of your SD card. - (Unlaunch users without HiyaCFW) In Unlaunch menu, go to options, and set the
No button
option toTWLMENUPP
(showingboot.nds
on the bottom).
- Install the updater here (or with QR code).
- Launch the updater.
- Touch Release next to TWL Menu++. Extraction may take a while.
- Do Step 3 again, but for nds-bootstrap.
- Setup Universal-Updater for your system (via either installing the 3dsx or cia).
- Download the
NTR/TWL
Script. Do so via following the on screen prompts. - Go into the list of scripts, select the script you just downloaded and select what you'd like to download.
- Delete the
_nds
folder from the root of your SD card, if it exists. - Download the latest version of TWiLight Menu++ 3DS from the releases page.
- In the 7z file, put the
_nds
folder in the SD Card root. - Put the
boot.nds
file in the SD Card root. - Put the
roms
folder in the SD Card root. - Put the two CIA files in the SD Card root.
- On the 3DS/2DS console, install the two CIAs.
