I really want to know how the world works. I trust my firsthand knowledge most. I trust the knowledge of my friends/family second.

What if I had friends across society? A lawyer friend, a medical doctor friend, someone in academia, in politics, in construction, gig worker. Maybe a billionaire (ok fine, i don't have to be friends with a billionaire, but maybe I know a guy who knows a guy who can tell me some things firsthand from that distance)

I think that would help a lot in so many things, but most important for me, in my feeling that the world is not this big, dark, scary mysterious place, but that the truth is knowable, that I know people I can ask and trust when I am curious about something.

Example today of someone in academia/researching ads, coming up when I am trying to write about communal efforts to research ads!!

feel free to hit my DMs!! i think that’s a very valid view, my group in particular studies ads for public health nutrition purposes and i feel like we’re 2.5 steps removed from the patient-oriented health research unit that formally involves citizens, maybe i should bring up!!

I think this is a super important step towards making it easier to answer the question, "where is the bottleneck?"

like if a medical doctor can ask his software friend, "why can't we just have software that does X for the hospital" and he can get the answer, either: (1) we tried, it failed, here's why, or (2) oh shit, we've never thought about it, lemme ask my boss

I think about this a lot!
