Run rvt-rs on your own Revit models and tell us how it went

rvt-rs reads Revit files without Revit: their metadata, their elements and an experimental IFC export. Every number in the README is measured against Revit's own IFC exports, but only on the few models we can share. Before 1.0 we want to hear from people who run it on their own work.

Who this is for. Anyone who works with Revit projects (architecture, structure, MEP, facilities, coordination), on any release from 2015 to 2027. No programming needed: the browser viewer is enough.

What to run. Pick whichever fits:

• In the browser. Open https://drunkonjava.github.io/rvt-rs/ and drop a project in. The file never leaves your machine: the viewer runs in the page and makes no network request with it. Use Download diagnostics afterwards: the file it saves has every name from the project replaced with a placeholder.
• On the command line. Install release 0.8.0 or later (cargo install rvt --locked, pip install rvt, or an archive from the Releases page), then:

  rvt-inspect your-project.rvt --json --anonymize > inspect.json
  rvt-ifc your-project.rvt -o out.ifc --diagnostics diagnostics.json --anonymize
  

  --anonymize replaces every name the output takes from the project with a placeholder: see below.
• If you have Revit, export the same project to IFC4 yourself and open both files side by side in any IFC viewer. That comparison is the most useful thing you can send.

What to report. Reply here, or open an issue if something is broken:

• the Revit release and the kind of project (an office, a house, a structural or MEP model);
• what you tried, what worked and what did not;
• inspect.json and diagnostics.json (or the viewer's diagnostics download);
• for a comparison with Revit's export, what differs: missing or extra elements, wrong storeys, shapes, names or properties.

You never need to send the model. The JSON outputs describe the file without containing the building. Without --anonymize they also name things in it: the file's name and the folder path Revit stored for it, the project's name and title, the names of its levels, a sample of its materials and element names, and the values its export settings map categories to. Any of these can name a client or a site.

With --anonymize (and in the viewer's download), each of those becomes a placeholder such as <redacted>.rvt, Level 1 or Material 2; the counts, releases, ElementIds and warnings stay, and they are what we need. On a release before 0.8.0, which has no --anonymize, replace those names by hand before posting. If you would rather not post at all, say so here and we will take it from an issue you can keep minimal.

What happens next. Every report gets an answer. Each finding becomes an issue or a line in the supported profile that names the report, so the profile says what rvt-rs does on models like yours, measured, not assumed.
