Desktop Fridge for Windows (beta 1)
Beta. The first Windows version of Desktop Fridge. It works, but it is new: expect rough edges, and please report anything odd.
Download
- Desktop-Fridge-Setup.exe: the installer. Installs just for you, no admin needed. Adds Desktop Fridge to the Start menu and can start it with Windows.
- Desktop-Fridge-Windows-portable.zip: no installer. Unzip anywhere and run
DesktopFridge.exe(keep theassetsfolder beside it).
Windows may warn that the app is from an unknown publisher, because it is not signed yet. Click More info, then Run anyway.
Using it
The fridge sits on your desktop, behind your windows. Press Win+D to see it.
- Drag a door to open it, or double-click it.
- Drop files from the Desktop or Explorer onto an open shelf. They move into a Fridge folder next to your Desktop folder (inside OneDrive if OneDrive syncs your Desktop).
- Drag a file back out, or right-click it for Put Back.
- Right-click the fridge for Open Fridge Folder, Move Everything to Desktop, Start with Windows and Quit.
- Ctrl-click a shut door for a sticky note. Drop a picture on a shut door for a photo magnet.
- Alt-drag to resize, Ctrl+Alt-drag to move.
Files are only ever moved, never copied or deleted. Uninstalling never touches your Fridge folder. Nothing goes online.
Reporting a problem
Open an issue and attach the log: %LOCALAPPDATA%\WhimsyDesk\Desktop Fridge\fridge.log.
Requires 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. Build 1916f86.
