This is my version of the smart mirror I am building. I am using Python3 and tkinter
.
In order to use Docker to build GUI, I described the steps I used here: https://medium.com/@nihon_rafy/building-a-dockerized-gui-by-sharing-the-host-screen-with-docker-container-b660835fb722
To make it work on mac, you need to do some steps:
- install xquartz & allow client connection (https://www.xquartz.org)
- add xhost:
xhost + 127.0.0.1
to allow access to the screen from localhost. You might have to re-run that command after every reboot.
And then:
run
make run-last
build the project
make build
Run the last succeeded built
make run
Create a .env file with the following content:
API_CITY=Berlin,DE
API_METRICS_UNIT=metric
API_APP_ID=xxx
WEATHER_DISPLAY_CITY=Berlin, Germany
FIRSTNAME=yyy
It is using the open weather API https://openweathermap.org/api.
In order to generate an API key, you have to create an account on the website, and generate a key for Current weather and forecast
in Free plan
.
You would be able to call the API 60times a minute, which is enough for what we are building, since the service is called once every 6hours.
