Uncharted Waters: New Horizons randomizer for the SNES Requires a 64-bit JVM ver. 1.6.0 or later and a copy of the original ROM

Note: The latest version can now process headerless ROMs.

Version 1.1

  • A redesign of how the map gets stored makes for a higher likelihood of a generated ROM (more ROMs should generate)
  • Port placement is now faster and all ports are guaranteed accessible
  • You can now see the initial "known world", and now have an option to turn off events in that area (so you don't start off with storms)
  • You can now turn off ship build times (so that new ships you build are completed instantly)
  • You can now turn on 24/7 access to port services and shops, so no need to wait for daytime or use inns

Verion 1.03

  • You can now randomize market types. Randomizes goods available in markets and their prices. Enforces that all goods are available somewhere, all port specialties are not goods already available via the market type, and that all buy prices are lower than sell prices.

Verion 1.02

  • More tiles are available for the minimap (854 instead of 770). See issue #3 for more information.
  • A seed that does not generate a ROM now produces a more descriptive error message.
  • You can now randomize initial port price sub-indeces.
  • The minimap-view is now titled with the ROM's filename (so you can tell which minimap goes with which generated rom)

Version 1.01

  • Added a makeLog.txt for further tracking ROM generation errors
  • Increased the ROM generation timeout from 20 seconds to 2 minutes (for slower machines)
  • Made a minor change to continent placement to increase randomness
  • Fixed archipelago placement (so that they are not all on the top left corner)

Version 1.0

  • Randomize the world map and your initial ship
  • Option to view minimap of newly created world
  • Theme editor allows you to rename Kingdoms, trade regions, all ports, discoveries, and commodities
  • Randomize port market types, shipyard types, specialty good and graphical tileset (a.k.a. "culture")

Known issues:

  • Junk may appear at the top of the in-game minimap. The latest version significantly reduces this.
  • There is a (very) minimal chance that ports may be placed in an inaccessible location.
  • The game may softlock if you change the graphical tileset ("Culture") of capitals.
  • Randomizing the map may make the game impossible to beat.
    (Especially for Pietro, who needs to sail from Genoa to Lisbon right at the start of the scenario).
