Client options:

  • \cg_blood 1 (gibs!)
  • \cg_tutorial 0 (nobody reads this, need a better solution)
  • \sv_master2 master.grangerhub.com (as a backup)

Video Stuff:

  • \r_fullscreen 0 (Don't do it by default, let players set their own video option)

  • \r_gamma 1.2 (Because almost everyone complains about the game brightness)

  • \r_intensity 1.1 (Make [ ] \r_screenshotJpegQuality 97 (Good compromise of very high quality with less than gigantic filesize)
    0## Bind changes:

  • \bind F3 ready (EZier to use 'ready' since it's not in the middle of unbound keys)

  • \bind F4 cancelvote (new addition, since players can cancel their own votes)

  • \bind F5 teamvote_yes (move these far away from regular voteyes and voteno vote)

  • \bind F6 teamvote_no

  • \bind F12 screenshotPNG ???? (we do link against libpng yes?)

  • \bind shift +movedown (easier to reach crouch while WASD'ing)

  • \bind c +speed (walk modifier where crouch was)

  • \bind x +button8 (sprint)

  • \bind z "" (formlerly +zoom, but we don't have that...(again? yet??))

Network stuff:

  • \rate 50000 (should up this on server too)
  • \snaps 9999 (limited by sv_fps)
  • \cl_maxPackets 125
  • \com_maxFPS 125

I disagree with "\cg_tutorial 0." Tutorial mode should remain on by default, until something better replaces it.

I always use tutorial, and everybody does to me. It helps to know what are your keys and wether you can or not do an action (e.g : it helps pointing with the construction kit)

Not everyone leaves the tutorial mode on. But I have left it on since I started playing trem in 2009. That is not to say that there aren't better ways that its functionality can be implemented. But until those better ways are implemented, the tutorial mode should stay on by default especially for new players.

cg_tutorial 1 - New People do use it.

bind CTRL "+movedown"

bind SHIFT "+speed" (to walk slowly)

com_maxfps 100

cl_maxpackets 50 (I can't even use those settings because i live in australia with a standard home connection)

The shift key is current used for walk, if shift is used for something else, what should walk be bound to? Walk is an important somewhat common command, especially for keeping footsteps silent, additionally at the moment, the Spitfire in the Swirl Game Mode uses walk to hover.

@dGr8LookinSparky I am saying just to swap Shift/walk with the C/crouch keys.

About tutorial text: I feel the player should set this option on first run / core settings screen. But also, I think a demo tutorial / map would be far more efficient at teaching people anything about the game.
However, at a minimum the tutorial text could be presented differently, perhaps as a series of 'notification' style tips.

I hate notification style tips. They get in your way and you sort of needed to wait for them to come up. They are fine if there are lots of controls to learn but tremulous tbh doesn't have many controls per-class

But perhaps it would be more appropriate to have a/some dedicated HUD element(s) specifically designed to show what actions you can take (with which keys)? Or, at the very least, redesign how the tutorial mode works and is displayed. It would be cool if someone were to make a mock-up for how such improvements might look in the HUD (mock-ups are not my forte ;) ).

I think maintianing the playerbase is a higher priority than tutorials for now.

@dGr8LookinSparky

@ZdrytchX , improving tutorials does not take effort away from maintaining the playerbase, on the contrary such improvements can help maintain and even grow the playerbase, especially if it means making the learning and playing experience better for potential new players. But lets not get into abstract debates in these issue comments, and keep the comments focused on the specific issues to get them resolved at some point. I know that there are some higher priority things we need to get done at the moment, but this is an important issue that needs to get done before the initial 1.3 full release. That is, Improving various default settings, and the related side issue of improving the tutorial text. The sooner we see some mockups of enhancement to the tutorial mode and/or alternatives to it, the sooner something good can be implemented.

tutorial should be added in my point of vue, but only if it is moved from its current position. Actual position is intrusive, while the original one wasn't, and that probably was intended
