In Kerbal Space Program, every part is absolutely reliable: this mod attempts to bring a little bit more of realism to the game, by causing parts on your ship to fail at random.

The chance of failure is tied to how and how long a part has been used: old parts cannot be trusted when you are alone in space... Treat your parts well, and come home soon, if you want to come home at all.

You are not entirely helpless, however: you can keep your parts in good shape with regular maintenance, and even if they break, you might still be able to repair them!

This mod requires Module Manager to function. In fact, using Module Manager it "supports" every part pack you can imagine, because the failure modules are applied to part functionalities, and not to specific parts!

At this time, failures can only happen on active vessels: if you are not flying a ship, it's safe. This is a limitation due to how KSP works, and might be solved in the future, hopefully.

Quick start

Starting with this mod is really simple: you can start swearing at your monitor and rage-quitting in anger in no time!

  1. Follow the installation instructions to make sure you are all set;
  2. Build your craft paying attention to some general reliability principles:
    • Bring multiple copies of important parts;
    • High MTBF = good;
    • High LifeTime = good;
    • High temperature = very very bad;
  3. Check what skills are needed to service your craft;
  4. Check if you have a kerbal that is trained enough for the mission;
  5. Always have a plan B;
  6. And don't forget to setup the abort action group!
