I feel at this stage, I have achieved everything that I wanted to, so this is (hopefully) the final release of the Starter Kit. A summarised changelog:

  • The superb October 2021 is now available to play on the Starter Kit (huge thanks to everyone on the update team).
  • Lots of updates to the VAR Commentary file (thanks to samsami).
  • Tonnes of updates and fixes to Cam's legendary 93/94 database (thanks to Cam himself).
  • Cam's classic 95/96 database has been added to the Starter Kit as a database option (thanks again to the main man).
  • Play Menu now just has two options based on the currently selected database (Original and Nick's Patcher).
  • You can now play both the 3.9.60 and Luessenhoff databases in languages other than English!
  • Restoring backed up save games can now be done from the Starter Kit main menu.
  • The Swedish Second Division on the 3.9.60 database is now fixed and can be selected (previously this would cause an error).
  • Save games are now backed up to the desktop rather than the root of the C drive (to aid with permission issues).
  • Custom databases can now be loaded into the Starter Kit (provided they don't have a custom exe file!).
  • Quite a few more minor patches have been added into the background (see the README file for the updated list).
  • You can now upload patch files manually onto the Starter Kit if they aren't already there.
  • Starting the November 2020 and April 2021 databases in the year 2020 means that certain patches are applied automatically, including updated transfer windows and competition names, and points deductions for certain teams. Same goes with the new October 2021 data update and starting in 2021.
  • The Hidden Attributes patch is now an option on the Starter Kit patcher menu (the 4th column of player attributes).
  • The ability to have 9 named substitutes has replaced the old 7 substitutes patch on the patcher menu.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Unfortunately you can't use old save games in the new Starter Kit due to some of the changes that have been made, so stick with the last version for existing save games.
  • Starting in 2020 or 2021 is much more prone to error than if you start in 2001 as per usual. If you really want a save to have the best chance of continuing in the long term, start in the year 2001!
  • Always read the README file on here before doing anything - hopefully I have explained everything well enough for it to be understood.

I'm releasing a quick bugfix for an issue that a few people have come across due to their countries/regions (and therefore their computers) using a comma (or other character) instead of a period as a decimal separator.

With the release of v1.2.0 of the Starter Kit come many changes, most notably the inclusion of the recently released fantastic April 2021 data update! The other changes include:

  • The addition of a couple of other superb databases - 89/90 and 98/99 (CM3).
  • Some level of Android support (including Android 11) - a new menu that gives you instructions on getting up and running, and generates the files for you to copy to your device.
  • Ability to save/load custom databases
  • Many new default miscellaneous patches have been added in to Nick's Patcher - one button to enable or disable them all. Details about what they do can be found in the README file.
  • Ability to use Nick's Patcher settings on all databases - settings that are already applied by default have been greyed out to stop them being applied twice.
  • Nick's Patcher settings are now persisted when you come back to the page - previously it reset the options back to the defaults.
  • Certain files are validated when opening the tool - fixes any issues that occurred previously due to the game or the tool not being closed properly.
  • You can now uninstall the VAR commentary functionality without having to switch databases.
  • Default speed of the game has been increased from 1x to 4x.
  • Play Menu - options are restricted based on the currently loaded database - stops any confusion about which option to choose.
  • Slightly amended version of the 93/94 data update - Watford now have players and Roger Milla is no longer a non-player (among other minor changes).
  • Automated deletion of temporary files after a game crash - stops any issues occurring because of it.
  • Add faster game speeds options to Nick's Patcher - x50, x100, x200.
  • Progress bar for certain actions, so you know that the tool is still working and responding.
  • Starter Kit ensures it isn't running more than once at any one time
  • One little Easter Egg for you to find!

Had to make a few minor changes here and there, but I have now put together as clean a Mac version as I could.

Basically fixing a bit of a boo boo on my part, and goes against the whole point of the Starter Kit! But anyway, CM93 now runs without the user needing to download and mount the CD image. And a few other fixes.

I've added in the CM93 database and exe file so that the 1993/94 season can be played via the Starter Kit.

Feedback from a lot of people was that more options were needed for Nick's Patcher so I've added a few of those.

Also added GPF2 (Generated Player Finder) just because I can.

Few other fixes and improvements too.

This release makes changes that mean that the Starter Kit no longer requires you to install anything - everything is self-contained within the zip file that you download. No need to install the game, install the patch or mount any CDs! This also means you can take your save games with you between computers without having to worry about installing anything on each computer you play it on.

This release should now allow you to use the tool on Windows XP and Vista. There are also another couple of minor bug fixes, but probably nothing of note.

This is the first release of the CM01/02 Starter Kit!

I have spent a lot of time over the last couple of months developing this tool, and it is now in a state where I feel I can release it to the general public. Please be aware that there has only been limited feedback and testing involved in this, but it should still be pretty stable. I've put a lot of effort in ensuring I get things right and make it as easy as possible to use. It has been tested on Windows 7, 8 and 10. I can add an XP release as well if there is enough demand for it.

Please let me know what you think, and also of any issues you run in to. Take heed of everything in the readme as it should answer most questions that you may have.

Enjoy!
