ASF & SteamDB: formal agreement to support SteamTokenDumper
Hi everyone,
I want to share some news about the SteamTokenDumper plugin and the relationship between ASF and SteamDB.
Why this is happening
On 2 September 2026, xPaw announced that SteamDB has joined Nexus Mods, which Nexus Mods also announced. SteamDB is the service that receives the data plugin users choose to submit through SteamTokenDumper.
Until now, SteamDB was owned by xPaw, and my work on the plugin and on the ASF-side relationship with SteamDB was provided free of charge. Now that SteamDB is no longer owned by xPaw, that is no longer the case. Maintaining the plugin for a commercial service is continuous work, so I've entered into a formal commercial agreement with the company now operating SteamDB. It covers my continued maintenance of the plugin and my role as the ASF-side point of contact for SteamDB.
To be clear: nothing changes for you as an ASF user. The plugin remains free and open source, and you pay nothing. What changed is that my maintenance work for SteamDB is no longer free of charge. I hope that this will eventually benefit the ASF project as a whole, as additional funds can make a big difference to my ability to focus on this open-source software that we all love.
The financial terms are confidential between the parties, but the existence and nature of the arrangement are not, and you deserve to know about it.
What does not change
I know a commercial arrangement raises fair questions, so here is what stays the same:
Questions
If you have questions or concerns, don't hesitate to leave a comment, open a new discussion or otherwise reach out. I'll answer as openly as I can.
Thank you for your continued support and contributions.
