Historia v0.10.0 Release Notes
Hello,
I'm excited to share Historia v0.10.0, the first release of my fast, open-source Git desktop client built with Claude and Gemini.
Headline Highlights
- Blazing Fast, Scalable Commit Graph: Virtualized 60+ FPS rendering capable of loading and smoothly scrolling full histories of massive repositories (including the Linux kernel and Chromium ~1.8M commits) with zero UI lag.
- Built for Agentic Coding (
historia-cmdr): Local CLI and named-pipe control protocol allowing AI coding agents (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, custom LLM CLI tools) to navigate to commits, inspect diffs, and propose commit messages safely without mutating the repository. - Native AI Commit Message Assistance: Built-in commit message drafting powered by Google Gemini and OpenAI-compatible endpoints (local Ollama, vLLM, OpenRouter, Azure) with an on-demand model picker in the commit options bar.
- 3-Way Visual Conflict Resolver: Full-featured 3-way merge tool built on AvaloniaEdit in the centre pane with synchronized scrolling across Ours, Theirs, and editable Result panes.
- Rock-Solid Safety Guarantees: Strict enforcement of Rule 00 (destructive actions require explicit modal confirmation with Cancel as the default button) and Rule 0 (offline-first; no unsolicited network telemetry or calls).
Major Features Deep Dive
1. High-Performance Commit Graph & Lane Rendering
- Full History Virtualization: Loads and displays your entire commit history in a single virtualized view rather than capping it at the most recent few thousand commits.
- Resumable Topological Walk Engine: Combines chunked
git logstreaming, disk-backed metadata caching, and fast ref snapshots for quick repository opens. - Lightweight Mode: Optional setting to cap graph loading at 30,000 commits for memory-constrained workflows.
- Curated Lane Palettes: Custom color themes including Default, Cyberpunk, Synthwave, and Retro Sunset with high-contrast accessibility awareness.
- Interactive Graph Navigation: Jump directly to branch/tag tips, filter commits with real-time stream search (
Ctrl+F), zoom controls, and inline inspection of commit headers, authors, and dates.
2. Agentic Coding Assisstant (historia-cmdr)
- External Control Protocol: Ships with
historia-cmdr, a lightweight CLI client communicating with Historia via local named pipes. - Agent Commands:
historia-cmdr open [-C <repo>]— Open a repository tab in Historia.historia-cmdr show <rev>— Navigate and focus on a specific commit.historia-cmdr diff <rev> <file> [--line N]— Jump directly to a file diff at a specific line.historia-cmdr compare <base> <head> <file> [--line N]— Compare two revisions.historia-cmdr changes <file> [--staged]— Inspect working tree changes.historia-cmdr propose-commit (-m <text> | -F <file|->)— Hand staged files to Historia with a pre-filled commit message.
- Safety Guarantee (Rule 40): Agents navigate and propose only; they can never stage, commit, or alter Git state autonomously.
- (Please use the NoAutoShow versions of the skills for now, auto show can interrupt you mid review, updated design coming soon)
3. Integrated AI Commit Message Generation
- Multi-Protocol Support:
- Google Gemini API: Native integration with automatic model discovery and intelligent version fallback.
- OpenAI-Compatible Providers: Seamless integration with local models (Ollama, LM Studio, vLLM) or hosted APIs (OpenRouter, Azure OpenAI).
- Commit Bar Model Picker: Switch between configured models directly from the commit options row.
- Ergonomic Controls: Configurable diff character limits, reasoning effort sliders, custom prompt instructions, and custom HTTP headers.
- Privacy First: 100% on-demand; zero telemetry, zero background network polling.
4. 3-Way Conflict Resolver
- Center Pane Integration: Replaces the commit graph during active conflict sessions while keeping the staging panel accessible.
- Synchronized 3-Pane Editing: Ours and Theirs read-only panes synchronized with an editable Result pane powered by AvaloniaEdit.
- One-Click Resolvers: Take Ours, Take Theirs, Take Both, and next/previous conflict region jump.
- Merge State Actions: Continue, Skip, Abort rebase/merge, or Reset File to Conflicted state. External mergetool fallback supported.
5. Granular Working Tree Staging & Diffs
- Granular Staging: Stage and unstage individual files, hunks, or lines directly from the diff viewer.
- Syntax Highlighting: Powered by TextMateSharp across dozens of programming languages.
- Commit Management: Multi-line commit message box, commit amend toggle, author override, and per-repository tab draft persistence.
- Path Search & Filtering: Filter changed files quickly with dedicated filter bars.
6. Ref Navigator & Branch Operations
- Sidebar Tree: Instant cached tree view of local branches, remote tracking branches, tags, stashes, submodules, and worktrees.
- Fuzzy Ref Search: Fast fuzzy filtering across all branches, tags, and remotes.
- Tag Power Tools: Push individual tags, detect and resolve tag conflicts during fetch/pull, and delete remote tags.
- Stash Management: Inspect stash diffs, apply, pop, and drop stashes.
- Worktrees & Submodules: Inspect and manage Git worktrees and submodules within the workspace.
7. Embedded Terminal Dock
- Integrated PTY & Terminal: Embedded terminal powered by Porta.Pty and XTerm.NET.
- Repository Context Sync: Automatically tracks and sets working directory to the currently focused repository tab.
- Modern Terminal Protocols: OSC 52 clipboard copy/paste, Kitty keyboard protocol enhancements, and theme-matching ANSI color palettes.
