README ------ This is a collection of tools to allow access to OnStream SC-x0 SCSI tapes. It's needed, because they don't have a SCSI2 compliant command interface, so that the standard kernel's st driver fails to operate them. The osst driver nowadays is very stable and soon to be integrated into the mainstream kernel. They are mainly provided to get you started, if you already have such a device. If you want to help development, you are welcome: Testing, coding, writing docu, ... is all appreciated. Check http://linux1.onstream.nl/ There is a mailing list, which you should use to send your message to. The same holds, if you meet a bug. But please be prepared to work on it together with the developers ... The following programs are included in this package: * osst: Kernel module which can be loaded instead of st in order to access the OnStream tapes by the /dev/osstX device nodes. Note: This module can coexist with the existing standard SCSI tape driver "st". It's pretty stable nowadays. * osg (onstreamsg): Userspace program that uses the sg interface to access the OnStream tape. Beta quality. Look at ftp://ftp.orcas.net/pub/linux/onstream/ for updates. * os_dump, os_write: Access to the raw data on the tape. * stream: Userspace buffering tool (like buffer) Credits go to Willem Riede, Terry Hardie and Kurt Garloff for these tools.
