@cecilehannay I'm looking for the higher frequency data for this run as it is the control for @dan800 's comparison of the TEM diagnostics but it seems like only the h0 files are in /glade/scratch/hannay/archive/f.e21.FWscHIST.ne30_L48_BL10_cam6_3_041_control.hf.001/atm/hist/ Don't suppose they have been moved to somewhere else? I'm guessing maybe the higher frequency data has been scrubbed if it hasn't been touched. |
Unfortunately, this run was done in January and the higher frequency has
been scrubbed.

Ok, thanks |
@cecilehannay Is f.e21.FWscHIST.ne30_L48_BL10_cam6_3_041_control still our baseline from which all improvements are being based or have we moved forward? If it is we really need to redo it so we can diagnose the baseline TEM. If it's not then is there high frequency output from the new baseline to analyze? |
Here is the new baseline.
/glade/scratch/hannay/archive/f.cesm3_cam058_mom_b.FWscHIST.ne30_L58.001
with high frequency output.
|
@islasimpson @JulioTBacmeister What would be the best comparison? To run a L92 with this exact configuration (identical physics) but dumping GW momentum at lid. Presumably this would have a better residual circulation. We wanted to diagnose if we can get away with zero flux UBC in that configuration anyway. |
Thanks. I'm looking at this though and there are no .h2. files. Were they not saved for this one? If so, I think I can calculate the TEM diagnostics using the daily means for this one and the 6 hourly for the other one. That's ok. |
Yes, this correct. We dropped the 6-hourly output based on this document. We don't output h2 files anymore. |
Are we still OK with calculating TEM from daily or do we need to revisit the default output for this stage of model evaluation? If revisiting, then @adamrher -- can you see if we still need all those microphysical quantities on every run. What about N2O. |
I don't believe N2O is a dynamic tracer in the compsets that Cecile has been running. We are evaluating N2O in CAM-CHEM runs, separately. I assume you are referring to the monthly microphysics/aerosol fields... this stuff?
Doesn't seem like too much trouble to keep these around. Especially as we start to evaluate MAM5. |
re: N2O -- This is where things get confusing and I still think we need to consolidate. I think in SC (so L92) configurations N2O is a dynamic tracer. It sounds like it might be useful to have it in both L58 and L92 if it can help diagnose tracer transport issues. That CAMP7 doc has a lot of output under monthly (some repeated) and it's not clear if the ISSCP stuff is defaulted to be output or not ((that's more of what I was referring to). |
@cecilehannay are we turning on the isscp diagnostics by default? you're right, Dan. N2O is advected by the dycore in Cecile's L58 runs. I just double checked the log file. So we should ass N2O to the monthly files. We could do this for all chemical species. I think the BURDEN variables are enough to summarize the behavior advected aerosol species ... we should then consider whether to add the chemical species. |
So I looked at the google sheet, which is supposed to supercede the google doc - N2O isn't listed, even as an optional output. CH4 is listed as optional but I think is not optional - it's hugely valuable for understanding strat transport and water vapor. If CFCs are still being transported then they need to be added to the CAM7 output options. |
not familiar with the spreadsheet, but just looking at user_nl_cam for her latest run here, it does appear CH4 is included in her default i/o. That is the only chemical species included. The rest of the advected chemical species:
Should be added to the monthly fields. |
Yes, the google sheet supersedes the google doc. I was referring to the google doc because this is where we had the discussion to forgo the 6-hourly output. The latest version of the fincl is:
I will add the variables Adam suggests in the next run. |
