Welcome to the caGrid Core Project!

This github repository holds the caGrid 1.x code base, which is no longer under active development. If you are interested in the active codebase, please see [caGrid2] (

caGrid is the underlying service-oriented infrastructure that supports the National Cancer Informatics Program (NCIP). Driven primarily by scientific use cases from the cancer research community, caGrid provides the necessary core infrastructure to facilitate interoperability.

caGrid provides the technology that enables collaborating institutions to share information and analytical resources efficiently and securely, while also allowing investigators to easily contribute to and leverage the resources of a national-scale, multi-institutional environment.

caGrid Core is an Open Source project written in Java, and makes use of:

  • Central Authentication Service (CAS, from JA-SIG)
  • Cancer Data Standards Repository (caDSR)
  • Enterprise Vocabulary Services (EVS)
  • Globus Toolkit v. 4.0.3
  • Grouper (from Internet2)
  • Taverna
  • Persistent URLs (PURLs)
