As it is now this is more of a proof of concept / request for comments than a final Pull Request.
I skipped compilation of wxWidgets due to the time it took to build and installing a package seems just fine.
For the desktop app some paths were not being set correctly and the link flag for OpenGL was missing.
For WEX fontconfig linker flags were missing. I will be opening a similar PR there to take the fix upstream.
This should also be running tests and build the Release version as well.
