ShutdownButton

This program provides a simple shutdown function of the Raspberry Pi. Just connect a button to GPIO 25 and GND and press it to shutdown. Optionally you can connect a status led to GPIO 24 to indicate if the program is running and the button press was recognized.

Installation

In order to install the program so it runs at startup you need to install wiringPi and create an entry to rc.local.

#copy program
$ sudo cp ./ShutdownButton /home/pi/Desktop/Programs/ShutdownButton

# set rights to execute the file
$ sudo chmod 0777 /home/pi/Desktop/Programs/ShutdownButton

# test program first
# abort with crtl + c
/home/pi/Desktop/Programs/ShutdownButton

# open autostart file
$ sudo nano /etc/rc.local
# add the script (above exit 0)
/home/pi/Desktop/Programs/ShutdownButton </dev/null >/dev/null 2>&1 &

# press ctrl + x and save with y
# reboot your system

# kill the Program
sudo killall ShutdownButton
