[ Upstream commit ebaf39e6032faf77218220707fc3fa22487784e0 ] The *_frag_reasm() functions are susceptible to miscalculating the byte count of packet fragments in case the truesize of a head buffer changes. The truesize member may be changed by the call to skb_unclone(), leaving the fragment memory limit counter unbalanced even if all fragments are processed. This miscalculation goes unnoticed as long as the network namespace which holds the counter is not destroyed. Should an attempt be made to destroy a network namespace that holds an unbalanced fragment memory limit counter the cleanup of the namespace never finishes. The thread handling the cleanup gets stuck in inet_frags_exit_net() waiting for the percpu counter to reach zero. The thread is usually in running state with a stacktrace similar to: PID: 1073 TASK: ffff880626711440 CPU: 1 COMMAND: "kworker/u48:4" OnePlusOSS#5 [ffff880621563d48] _raw_spin_lock at ffffffff815f5480 OnePlusOSS#6 [ffff880621563d48] inet_evict_bucket at ffffffff8158020b OnePlusOSS#7 [ffff880621563d80] inet_frags_exit_net at ffffffff8158051c OnePlusOSS#8 [ffff880621563db0] ops_exit_list at ffffffff814f5856 OnePlusOSS#9 [ffff880621563dd8] cleanup_net at ffffffff814f67c0 OnePlusOSS#10 [ffff880621563e38] process_one_work at ffffffff81096f14 It is not possible to create new network namespaces, and processes that call unshare() end up being stuck in uninterruptible sleep state waiting to acquire the net_mutex. The bug was observed in the IPv6 netfilter code by Per Sundstrom. I thank him for his analysis of the problem. The parts of this patch that apply to IPv4 and IPv6 fragment reassembly are preemptive measures. [ Upstream commit c5a94f434c82529afda290df3235e4d85873c5b4 ] It was observed that a process blocked indefintely in __fscache_read_or_alloc_page(), waiting for FSCACHE_COOKIE_LOOKING_UP to be cleared via fscache_wait_for_deferred_lookup(). At this time, ->backing_objects was empty, which would normaly prevent __fscache_read_or_alloc_page() from getting to the point of waiting. This implies that ->backing_objects was cleared *after* __fscache_read_or_alloc_page was was entered. When an object is "killed" and then "dropped", FSCACHE_COOKIE_LOOKING_UP is cleared in fscache_lookup_failure(), then KILL_OBJECT and DROP_OBJECT are "called" and only in DROP_OBJECT is ->backing_objects cleared. This leaves a window where something else can set FSCACHE_COOKIE_LOOKING_UP and __fscache_read_or_alloc_page() can start waiting, before ->backing_objects is cleared There is some uncertainty in this analysis, but it seems to be fit the observations. Adding the wake in this patch will be handled correctly by __fscache_read_or_alloc_page(), as it checks if ->backing_objects is empty again, after waiting. Customer which reported the hang, also report that the hang cannot be reproduced with this fix. The backtrace for the blocked process looked like: PID: 29360 TASK: ffff881ff2ac0f80 CPU: 3 COMMAND: "zsh" #0 [ffff881ff43efbf8] schedule at ffffffff815e56f1 OnePlusOSS#1 [ffff881ff43efc58] bit_wait at ffffffff815e64ed OnePlusOSS#2 [ffff881ff43efc68] __wait_on_bit at ffffffff815e61b8 OnePlusOSS#3 [ffff881ff43efca0] out_of_line_wait_on_bit at ffffffff815e625e OnePlusOSS#4 [ffff881ff43efd08] fscache_wait_for_deferred_lookup at ffffffffa04f2e8f [fscache] OnePlusOSS#5 [ffff881ff43efd18] __fscache_read_or_alloc_page at ffffffffa04f2ffe [fscache] OnePlusOSS#6 [ffff881ff43efd58] __nfs_readpage_from_fscache at ffffffffa0679668 [nfs] OnePlusOSS#7 [ffff881ff43efd78] nfs_readpage at ffffffffa067092b [nfs] OnePlusOSS#8 [ffff881ff43efda0] generic_file_read_iter at ffffffff81187a73 OnePlusOSS#9 [ffff881ff43efe50] nfs_file_read at ffffffffa066544b [nfs] OnePlusOSS#10 [ffff881ff43efe70] __vfs_read at ffffffff811fc756 OnePlusOSS#11 [ffff881ff43efee8] vfs_read at ffffffff811fccfa OnePlusOSS#12 [ffff881ff43eff18] sys_read at ffffffff811fda62 OnePlusOSS#13 [ffff881ff43eff50] entry_SYSCALL_64_fastpath at ffffffff815e986e Signed-off-by: NeilBrown <neilb@suse.com> Signed-off-by: David Howells <dhowells@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Sasha Levin <sashal@kernel.org>

commit d0a255e795ab976481565f6ac178314b34fbf891 upstream. A deadlock with this stacktrace was observed. The loop thread does a GFP_KERNEL allocation, it calls into dm-bufio shrinker and the shrinker depends on I/O completion in the dm-bufio subsystem. In order to fix the deadlock (and other similar ones), we set the flag PF_MEMALLOC_NOIO at loop thread entry. [ Upstream commit 443f2d5ba13d65ccfd879460f77941875159d154 ] Observe a segmentation fault when 'perf stat' is asked to repeat forever with the interval option. Without fix: # perf stat -r 0 -I 5000 -e cycles -a sleep 10 # time counts unit events 5.000211692 3,13,89,82,34,157 cycles 10.000380119 1,53,98,52,22,294 cycles 10.040467280 17,16,79,265 cycles Segmentation fault This problem was only observed when we use forever option aka -r 0 and works with limited repeats. Calling print_counter with ts being set to NULL, is not a correct option when interval is set. Hence avoid print_counter(NULL,..) if interval is set. These preallocated extents have, and must have, the same size that extents from the data block group being relocated have. Later before we start the relocation stage that updates pointers (bytenr field of file extent items) to point to the the new extents, we trigger writeback for the data relocation inode. The expectation is that writeback will write the pages to the previously preallocated extents, that it follows the NOCOW path. That is generally the case, however, if a scrub is running it may have turned the block group that contains those extents into RO mode, in which case writeback falls back to the COW path. However in the COW path instead of allocating exactly one extent with the expected size, the allocator may end up allocating several smaller extents due to free space fragmentation - because we tell it at cow_file_range() that the minimum allocation size can match the filesystem's sector size. This later breaks the relocation's expectation that an extent associated to a file extent item in the data relocation inode has the same size as the respective extent pointed by a file extent item in another tree - in this case the extent to which the relocation inode poins to is smaller, causing relocation.c:get_new_location() to return -EINVAL. For example, if we are relocating a data block group X that has a logical address of X and the block group has an extent allocated at the logical address X + 128KiB with a size of 64KiB: 1) At prealloc_file_extent_cluster() we allocate an extent for the data relocation inode with a size of 64KiB and associate it to the file offset 128KiB (X + 128KiB - X) of the data relocation inode. This preallocated extent was allocated at block group Z; 2) A scrub running in parallel turns block group Z into RO mode and starts scrubing its extents; 3) Relocation triggers writeback for the data relocation inode; 4) When running delalloc (btrfs_run_delalloc_range()), we try first the NOCOW path because the data relocation inode has BTRFS_INODE_PREALLOC set in its flags. However, because block group Z is in RO mode, the NOCOW path (run_delalloc_nocow()) falls back into the COW path, by calling cow_file_range(); 5) At cow_file_range(), in the first iteration of the while loop we call btrfs_reserve_extent() to allocate a 64KiB extent and pass it a minimum allocation size of 4KiB (fs_info->sectorsize). Due to free space fragmentation, btrfs_reserve_extent() ends up allocating two extents of 32KiB each, each one on a different iteration of that while loop; 6) Writeback of the data relocation inode completes; 7) Relocation proceeds and ends up at relocation.c:replace_file_extents(), with a leaf which has a file extent item that points to the data extent from block group X, that has a logical address (bytenr) of X + 128KiB and a size of 64KiB. Then it calls get_new_location(), which does a lookup in the data relocation tree for a file extent item starting at offset 128KiB (X + 128KiB - X) and belonging to the data relocation inode. It finds a corresponding file extent item, however that item points to an extent that has a size of 32KiB, which doesn't match the expected size of 64KiB, resuling in -EINVAL being returned from this function and propagated up to __btrfs_cow_block(), which aborts the current transaction. To fix this make sure that at cow_file_range() when we call the allocator we pass it a minimum allocation size corresponding the desired extent size if the inode belongs to the data relocation tree, otherwise pass it the filesystem's sector size as the minimum allocation size. The root cause is as follows: When the pages are written to swap device during swapping out in swap_writepage(), zswap (fontswap) is tried to compress the pages to improve performance. But zswap (frontswap) will treat THP as a normal page, so only the head page is saved. After swapping in, tail pages will not be restored to their original contents, causing memory corruption in the applications. This is fixed by refusing to save page in the frontswap store functions if the page is a THP. So that the THP will be swapped out to swap device. Another choice is to split THP if frontswap is enabled. But it is found that the frontswap enabling isn't flexible. For example, if CONFIG_ZSWAP=y (cannot be module), frontswap will be enabled even if zswap itself isn't enabled. Frontswap has multiple backends, to make it easy for one backend to enable THP support, the THP checking is put in backend frontswap store functions instead of the general interfaces. [ Upstream commit ef27324e2cb7bb24542d6cb2571740eefe6b00dc ] Our detector found a concurrent use-after-free bug when detaching an NCI device. The main reason for this bug is the unexpected scheduling between the used delayed mechanism (timer and workqueue). The race can be demonstrated below: Thread-1 Thread-2 | nci_dev_up() | nci_open_device() | __nci_request(nci_reset_req) | nci_send_cmd | queue_work(cmd_work) nci_unregister_device() | nci_close_device() | ... del_timer_sync(cmd_timer)[1] | ... | Worker nci_free_device() | nci_cmd_work() kfree(ndev)[3] | mod_timer(cmd_timer)[2] In short, the cleanup routine thought that the cmd_timer has already been detached by [1] but the mod_timer can re-attach the timer [2], even it is already released [3], resulting in UAF. This UAF is easy to trigger, crash trace by POC is like below [ 66.703713] ================================================================== [ 66.703974] BUG: KASAN: use-after-free in enqueue_timer+0x448/0x490 [ 66.703974] Write of size 8 at addr ffff888009fb7058 by task kworker/u4:1/33 [ 66.703974] [ 66.703974] CPU: 1 PID: 33 Comm: kworker/u4:1 Not tainted 5.18.0-rc2 OnePlusOSS#5 [ 66.703974] Workqueue: nfc2_nci_cmd_wq nci_cmd_work [ 66.703974] Call Trace: [ 66.703974] <TASK> [ 66.703974] dump_stack_lvl+0x57/0x7d [ 66.703974] print_report.cold+0x5e/0x5db [ 66.703974] ? enqueue_timer+0x448/0x490 [ 66.703974] kasan_report+0xbe/0x1c0 [ 66.703974] ? enqueue_timer+0x448/0x490 [ 66.703974] enqueue_timer+0x448/0x490 [ 66.703974] __mod_timer+0x5e6/0xb80 [ 66.703974] ? mark_held_locks+0x9e/0xe0 [ 66.703974] ? try_to_del_timer_sync+0xf0/0xf0 [ 66.703974] ? lockdep_hardirqs_on_prepare+0x17b/0x410 [ 66.703974] ? queue_work_on+0x61/0x80 [ 66.703974] ? lockdep_hardirqs_on+0xbf/0x130 [ 66.703974] process_one_work+0x8bb/0x1510 [ 66.703974] ? lockdep_hardirqs_on_prepare+0x410/0x410 [ 66.703974] ? pwq_dec_nr_in_flight+0x230/0x230 [ 66.703974] ? rwlock_bug.part.0+0x90/0x90 [ 66.703974] ? _raw_spin_lock_irq+0x41/0x50 [ 66.703974] worker_thread+0x575/0x1190 [ 66.703974] ? process_one_work+0x1510/0x1510 [ 66.703974] kthread+0x2a0/0x340 [ 66.703974] ? kthread_complete_and_exit+0x20/0x20 [ 66.703974] ret_from_fork+0x22/0x30 [ 66.703974] </TASK> [ 66.703974] [ 66.703974] Allocated by task 267: [ 66.703974] kasan_save_stack+0x1e/0x40 [ 66.703974] __kasan_kmalloc+0x81/0xa0 [ 66.703974] nci_allocate_device+0xd3/0x390 [ 66.703974] nfcmrvl_nci_register_dev+0x183/0x2c0 [ 66.703974] nfcmrvl_nci_uart_open+0xf2/0x1dd [ 66.703974] nci_uart_tty_ioctl+0x2c3/0x4a0 [ 66.703974] tty_ioctl+0x764/0x1310 [ 66.703974] __x64_sys_ioctl+0x122/0x190 [ 66.703974] do_syscall_64+0x3b/0x90 [ 66.703974] entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x44/0xae [ 66.703974] [ 66.703974] Freed by task 406: [ 66.703974] kasan_save_stack+0x1e/0x40 [ 66.703974] kasan_set_track+0x21/0x30 [ 66.703974] kasan_set_free_info+0x20/0x30 [ 66.703974] __kasan_slab_free+0x108/0x170 [ 66.703974] kfree+0xb0/0x330 [ 66.703974] nfcmrvl_nci_unregister_dev+0x90/0xd0 [ 66.703974] nci_uart_tty_close+0xdf/0x180 [ 66.703974] tty_ldisc_kill+0x73/0x110 [ 66.703974] tty_ldisc_hangup+0x281/0x5b0 [ 66.703974] __tty_hangup.part.0+0x431/0x890 [ 66.703974] tty_release+0x3a8/0xc80 [ 66.703974] __fput+0x1f0/0x8c0 [ 66.703974] task_work_run+0xc9/0x170 [ 66.703974] exit_to_user_mode_prepare+0x194/0x1a0 [ 66.703974] syscall_exit_to_user_mode+0x19/0x50 [ 66.703974] do_syscall_64+0x48/0x90 [ 66.703974] entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x44/0xae To fix the UAF, this patch adds flush_workqueue() to ensure the nci_cmd_work is finished before the following del_timer_sync. …tion commit 07fd5b6cdf3cc30bfde8fe0f644771688be04447 upstream. Each cset (css_set) is pinned by its tasks. When we're moving tasks around across csets for a migration, we need to hold the source and destination csets to ensure that they don't go away while we're moving tasks about. This is done by linking cset->mg_preload_node on either the mgctx->preloaded_src_csets or mgctx->preloaded_dst_csets list. Using the same cset->mg_preload_node for both the src and dst lists was deemed okay as a cset can't be both the source and destination at the same time. Unfortunately, this overloading becomes problematic when multiple tasks are involved in a migration and some of them are identity noop migrations while others are actually moving across cgroups. For example, this can happen with the following sequence on cgroup1: PeterCxy#1> mkdir -p /sys/fs/cgroup/misc/a/b OnePlusOSS#2> echo $$ > /sys/fs/cgroup/misc/a/cgroup.procs OnePlusOSS#3> RUN_A_COMMAND_WHICH_CREATES_MULTIPLE_THREADS & OnePlusOSS#4> PID=$! OnePlusOSS#5> echo $PID > /sys/fs/cgroup/misc/a/b/tasks OnePlusOSS#6> echo $PID > /sys/fs/cgroup/misc/a/cgroup.procs the process including the group leader back into a. In this final migration, non-leader threads would be doing identity migration while the group leader is doing an actual one. After OnePlusOSS#3, let's say the whole process was in cset A, and that after OnePlusOSS#4, the leader moves to cset B. Then, during OnePlusOSS#6, the following happens: 1. cgroup_migrate_add_src() is called on B for the leader. 2. cgroup_migrate_add_src() is called on A for the other threads. 3. cgroup_migrate_prepare_dst() is called. It scans the src list. 4. It notices that B wants to migrate to A, so it tries to A to the dst list but realizes that its ->mg_preload_node is already busy. 5. and then it notices A wants to migrate to A as it's an identity migration, it culls it by list_del_init()'ing its ->mg_preload_node and putting references accordingly. 6. The rest of migration takes place with B on the src list but nothing on the dst list. This means that A isn't held while migration is in progress. If all tasks leave A before the migration finishes and the incoming task pins it, the cset will be destroyed leading to use-after-free. This is caused by overloading cset->mg_preload_node for both src and dst preload lists. We wanted to exclude the cset from the src list but ended up inadvertently excluding it from the dst list too. This patch fixes the issue by separating out cset->mg_preload_node into ->mg_src_preload_node and ->mg_dst_preload_node, so that the src and dst preloadings don't interfere with each other. In 2019, Sergey fixed a lockdep splat with 15341b1 ("char/random: silence a lockdep splat with printk()"), but that got reverted soon after from 4.19 because back then it apparently caused various problems. But the issue it was fixing is still there, and more generally, many patches turning printk() into printk_deferred() have landed since, making me suspect it's okay to try this out again. This should fix the following deadlock found by the kernel test robot: [ 18.287691] WARNING: possible circular locking dependency detected [ 18.287692] 4.19.248-00165-g3d1f971aa81f PeterCxy#1 Not tainted [ 18.287693] ------------------------------------------------------ [ 18.287712] stop/202 is trying to acquire lock: [ 18.287713] (ptrval) (console_owner){..-.}, at: console_unlock (??:?) commit 0c7d7cc2b4fe2e74ef8728f030f0f1674f9f6aee upstream. There are two problems with the current code of memory_intersects: First, it doesn't check whether the region (begin, end) falls inside the region (virt, vend), that is (virt < begin && vend > end). The second problem is if vend is equal to begin, it will return true but this is wrong since vend (virt + size) is not the last address of the memory region but (virt + size -1) is. The wrong determination will trigger the misreporting when the function check_for_illegal_area calls memory_intersects to check if the dma region intersects with stext region. The misreporting is as below (stext is at 0x80100000): WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 77 at kernel/dma/debug.c:1073 check_for_illegal_area+0x130/0x168 DMA-API: chipidea-usb2 e0002000.usb: device driver maps memory from kernel text or rodata [addr=800f0000] [len=65536] Modules linked in: CPU: 1 PID: 77 Comm: usb-storage Not tainted 5.19.0-yocto-standard OnePlusOSS#5 Hardware name: Xilinx Zynq Platform unwind_backtrace from show_stack+0x18/0x1c show_stack from dump_stack_lvl+0x58/0x70 dump_stack_lvl from __warn+0xb0/0x198 __warn from warn_slowpath_fmt+0x80/0xb4 warn_slowpath_fmt from check_for_illegal_area+0x130/0x168 check_for_illegal_area from debug_dma_map_sg+0x94/0x368 debug_dma_map_sg from __dma_map_sg_attrs+0x114/0x128 __dma_map_sg_attrs from dma_map_sg_attrs+0x18/0x24 dma_map_sg_attrs from usb_hcd_map_urb_for_dma+0x250/0x3b4 usb_hcd_map_urb_for_dma from usb_hcd_submit_urb+0x194/0x214 usb_hcd_submit_urb from usb_sg_wait+0xa4/0x118 usb_sg_wait from usb_stor_bulk_transfer_sglist+0xa0/0xec usb_stor_bulk_transfer_sglist from usb_stor_bulk_srb+0x38/0x70 usb_stor_bulk_srb from usb_stor_Bulk_transport+0x150/0x360 usb_stor_Bulk_transport from usb_stor_invoke_transport+0x38/0x440 usb_stor_invoke_transport from usb_stor_control_thread+0x1e0/0x238 usb_stor_control_thread from kthread+0xf8/0x104 kthread from ret_from_fork+0x14/0x2c Refactor memory_intersects to fix the two problems above. Before the 1d7db834a027e ("dma-debug: use memory_intersects() directly"), memory_intersects is called only by printk_late_init: printk_late_init -> init_section_intersects ->memory_intersects. There were few places where memory_intersects was called. When commit 1d7db834a027e ("dma-debug: use memory_intersects() directly") was merged and CONFIG_DMA_API_DEBUG is enabled, the DMA subsystem uses it to check for an illegal area and the calltrace above is triggered. [ Upstream commit 84a53580c5d2138c7361c7c3eea5b31827e63b35 ] The SRv6 layer allows defining HMAC data that can later be used to sign IPv6 Segment Routing Headers. This configuration is realised via netlink through four attributes: SEG6_ATTR_HMACKEYID, SEG6_ATTR_SECRET, SEG6_ATTR_SECRETLEN and SEG6_ATTR_ALGID. Because the SECRETLEN attribute is decoupled from the actual length of the SECRET attribute, it is possible to provide invalid combinations (e.g., secret = "", secretlen = 64). This case is not checked in the code and with an appropriately crafted netlink message, an out-of-bounds read of up to 64 bytes (max secret length) can occur past the skb end pointer and into skb_shared_info: Breakpoint 1, seg6_genl_sethmac (skb=<optimized out>, info=<optimized out>) at net/ipv6/seg6.c:208 208 memcpy(hinfo->secret, secret, slen); (gdb) bt #0 seg6_genl_sethmac (skb=<optimized out>, info=<optimized out>) at net/ipv6/seg6.c:208 PeterCxy#1 0xffffffff81e012e9 in genl_family_rcv_msg_doit (skb=skb@entry=0xffff88800b1f9f00, nlh=nlh@entry=0xffff88800b1b7600, extack=extack@entry=0xffffc90000ba7af0, ops=ops@entry=0xffffc90000ba7a80, hdrlen=4, net=0xffffffff84237580 <init_net>, family=<optimized out>, family=<optimized out>) at net/netlink/genetlink.c:731 OnePlusOSS#2 0xffffffff81e01435 in genl_family_rcv_msg (extack=0xffffc90000ba7af0, nlh=0xffff88800b1b7600, skb=0xffff88800b1f9f00, family=0xffffffff82fef6c0 <seg6_genl_family>) at net/netlink/genetlink.c:775 OnePlusOSS#3 genl_rcv_msg (skb=0xffff88800b1f9f00, nlh=0xffff88800b1b7600, extack=0xffffc90000ba7af0) at net/netlink/genetlink.c:792 OnePlusOSS#4 0xffffffff81dfffc3 in netlink_rcv_skb (skb=skb@entry=0xffff88800b1f9f00, cb=cb@entry=0xffffffff81e01350 <genl_rcv_msg>) at net/netlink/af_netlink.c:2501 OnePlusOSS#5 0xffffffff81e00919 in genl_rcv (skb=0xffff88800b1f9f00) at net/netlink/genetlink.c:803 OnePlusOSS#6 0xffffffff81dff6ae in netlink_unicast_kernel (ssk=0xffff888010eec800, skb=0xffff88800b1f9f00, sk=0xffff888004aed000) at net/netlink/af_netlink.c:1319 OnePlusOSS#7 netlink_unicast (ssk=ssk@entry=0xffff888010eec800, skb=skb@entry=0xffff88800b1f9f00, portid=portid@entry=0, nonblock=<optimized out>) at net/netlink/af_netlink.c:1345 OnePlusOSS#8 0xffffffff81dff9a4 in netlink_sendmsg (sock=<optimized out>, msg=0xffffc90000ba7e48, len=<optimized out>) at net/netlink/af_netlink.c:1921 ... [ Upstream commit f8bbc07ac535593139c875ffa19af924b1084540 ] vhost_worker will call tun call backs to receive packets. If too many illegal packets arrives, tun_do_read will keep dumping packet contents. When console is enabled, it will costs much more cpu time to dump packet and soft lockup will be detected. net_ratelimit mechanism can be used to limit the dumping rate.
