What is OpenDungeons?

OpenDungeons is an open source, real time strategy game sharing game elements with the Dungeon Keeper series and Evil Genius. Players build an underground dungeon which is inhabited by creatures. Players fight each other for control of the underground by indirectly commanding their creatures, directly casting spells in combat, and luring enemies into sinister traps.

Is it free?

OpenDungeons is free of charge, but it is also free as in free speech, which means that you can copy, modify and redistribute the game as you want, provided that you comply with the GNU General Public License (version 3) for the code source, and the various free content licenses listed in our CREDITS file for the art assets (often Creative Commons Attribution - Share Alike).

How can I get the game?

The simplest way is to download our latest stable release from our TuxFamily download page. You will find both Windows (32-bit) and Linux (32-bit and 64-bit). Please contact us if those binary releases do not work on your Windows or Linux system.

For Linux users, you may also find the game packaged in your distribution's official repositories (Mageia), in third-party repositories (PlayDeb) or in the awesome Lutris gaming platform.

You can also build the game from source.

How do I play the game?

OpenDungeons currently lacks an in-game tutorial. To get familiarised with the gameplay concepts, you can check the in-game help screen by pressing F1 or clicking the help icon. You can also read about the gameplay (this page might be slightly outdated), or check our video tutorial made for OpenDungeons 0.5.0.
