I think this is for connecting to a TOPS-20 file server trough Chaosnet.

I also think the host is selected with the file name device, so e.g. XX: would go to MIT-XX. After the two-character host name comes an optional remote device name which defaults to PS.

Note that "long filenames" can be used, e.g. using EMACS you could open the file XXSRC: SYS.SYSTEM; HOSTS MID to access the file SRC:<SYS.SYSTEM>HOSTS.MID from XX.
