Best practice - Github branches & PR's?

I have cloned the main branch of prql/prql to my own repository. I then want to monkey around with it, so the logical thing to do is make a branch.

BUT... I'm not sure that the Github Actions operate on any branch except main... What's the best way for me to test out my changes before creating a PR? Thanks.

I think four options:

• You could create a PR labeled "Draft" to try things out, if you're not ready for a review yet
• You can create a PR with your own fork as a base
• You can change the workflow file, but this means changing it back before trying to merge into prql/prql
• We could enable running workflows on every commit, not just PR. But does that mean we'll get double-runs?

I realize that the biggest problem is that when I edit in my main branch. I can run the tests locally (on that branch), and create the PR. BUT... now my main is polluted, and it's hard to merge back other changes from the prql/prql main branch...

I think creating my own branch, and then submitting "Draft" PR's is the best option of your suggestions. Thanks.
