Hivecities

Hivecities are cities that are made up mostly of skyscrapers. As a general rule of thumb, only the very powerful or very rich can afford to stay in the upper glass- and steel-lined floors of the skyscrapers; everyone else must either live on the streets or in makeshift buildings built into hollows artificially created in the foundations of buildings.

The two hives are completely separate from each other. Those who belong to the "upperhives" need never head down to the underhives or streets: everything they need can be obtained from stores catering to the needs of the rich and powerful, and if they ever need to visit an adjacent building in person, they can always take an omnicopter. Those from the underhive, on the other hand, are unofficially banned from entering the upperhive. While there is no formal legalisation forbidding citizens entry, the corporate police will find some excuse to eject anyone whose presence they deem inappropriate.
