You can create a new character by using the /character new command. This creates a character with the default settings from the server, shows you the character card, and allows you to edit any fields to your liking. You can edit fields either by clicking the Edit button next to a field or using /character set [field], and then typing in what you want to set the field to in chat. Some fields may be hidden: In order to do this, select the Hide button next to the field you wish to hide on your character card, or use /character hide [field]. This is useful if, for example, another character should not be able to determine your race if you are wearing a hood. If you wish to unhide a field again, select the Unhide button next to the field, or use /character unhide [field]. Servers may sometimes set a cooldown on the creation of new characters.
Switching character saves everything about the character you're playing: health, food level, thirst, location, and so forth, and places you on another character, either one you have previously created, or a new one. To switch back to a character you have previously played, first look at your character list with /character list, then use /character switch [name]. This will restore you back to exactly where you were when you last played your other character. To switch to a new character, follow the same instructions on creating a new character. You will be switched to your new character automatically after using /character new.
Deleting characters is permanent and will issue no warning if you enter the character's name on the same line, so take care that this is really what you want to do, especially if you have characters with similar names! Deleting characters is useful if you wish to clear your list of characters that are dead, for example, or if you are an event team member and no longer wish to use a specific character.
You can view your own character with /character card. This will show and allow you to modify your character. To view other players' character cards, you can use /character card [player], or interact with the player you wish to view the character of. Some servers may also require that you sneak.
You can add/remove races with /race add and /race remove. In order to view existing races, you can use /race list.
