We have an important announcement regarding TBXA, which was originally scheduled for release today, October 10, 2026. After exploring several possible solutions, we have made a difficult decision: the Windows version of TBXA is officially cancelled. The project will now be developed and distributed exclusively for Linux.
The main issue is Microsoft Smart App Control, which blocks our installer with a security warning and provides no standard option to override the block and run the executable. Unlike some Microsoft SmartScreen warnings, this restriction cannot simply be bypassed with a confirmation click. One potential workaround would require users to disable certain Windows security protections. We categorically refuse to ask our users to compromise their system's security just to install our software. Obtaining a trusted code-signing certificate also presents significant financial and administrative barriers, including business verification requirements depending on the provider. Meanwhile, building a positive file reputation with Microsoft is difficult for a project with a relatively small user base, especially when frequent updates constantly change the executable's hash. We will not compromise our users' security just to maintain Windows compatibility.
🐧 Linux becomes our exclusive platform
TBXA will target the following Linux distribution families:
macOS will not be supported either, due to similar challenges involving application signing and distribution requirements.
The release planned for today is cancelled. We will now focus our efforts entirely on Linux and adapt our distribution process accordingly.
