Bug Reporting

Reporting bugs is divided in two sections but assume you need to troubleshoot both sides.

PowerPC Problems

Errors which should throw a PPC exception window or application is not launching throwing some other error, but 68k side is still usable, ex. you can still use Workbench.

68K Problems

Errors which lock up the machine, display frozen, can't RAmiga-N to get back to Workbench, sound frozen and skipping, etc.

Bug Report Form

Fill this out and paste into email or forum post that the team is present on.

  • System Configuration (short): A5000 Cortex-A8 1GB with PCIe Mediator MK-IX, Brombulator Accelerator, MSATA HDD on Motherboard
  • Accelerator including CPU, Speed, Options and 040/060.library: Cyberstorm MK-1 060-50MHz with no RAM or SCSI onboard w/Ralph Babel's 68060.library
  • If using Thor's MMU.library and 040/060 Libraries gather: Output of Muscan, contents of ENVARC:MMU-Configuration (if exists) List of optional modules in use like: MuFastZero, MuMove4K, MuFastChip, etc
  • Power Supply: Original Stock AT Power Supply from 1993
  • Operating System with additional patch info: AmigaOS 3.9 with BB2 plus a bunch of random libraries loaded via Loadmodule
  • Kickstart Version: 2.0 with 1.3KS elements hacked to look exactly like 1.3 plus SCSI.device 45.45
  • HDD and controller: 40GB SCSI connected to Rapidfire You do not need to inventory all HDDs in system, just boot and we assume applications are loading from this one
  • PowerPC Card with RAM (if configurable): Sonnet 400-1M/384, 3x128MB 8K Refresh DIMMS, L2 Replaced with 300MHz Div2
  • Picasso96 version: 2.1 from Aminet Also include settings from ENVARC:Picasso96/ and Tooltypes from Devs:Monitors/Your_Video_Driver
  • Mediator settings: PCI.Library version 13.3 beta Also include settings from ENVARC:Mediator Also include jumper settings from the Mediator, Winsize, Swap, Master
  • Sonnet Settings: Include Settings from ENVARC:Sonnet/ ex. DisSigBounce=1 L2CacheDiv=1

Error Section

  • Which application threw the error: System froze when running InitPPC
  • When did the error occur: When I took the Wizard's Key and climb on the Pegasus and it plays Bach's Fugue in OGG format
  • Did the Sonnet Exception Window Pop Up?: Save this information, you can highlight this text and Copy+Paste into Editpad and save it
  • What options were used to launch the application: -rate=48000 -eightbit -frameskip=1

Submitting a crash report

You will need the following:

Filex or some other utility to grab Memory contents

Some Editor, Ed or Editpad are acceptable

Process:

  1. Application crash popping up Sonnet Exception Window
  2. Highlight text in Sonnet Exception Window and LAmiga+C to Copy
  3. Paste Contents in your text editor and save somewhere, lets say RAM:
  4. Look at the address of SRR0: in the Sonnet Exception Window.
  5. Open Filex, in the Project pull down Menu Select Grab Memory. Enter the address of SRR0: Plus and Minus 1000 For Example, SRR0: Reads 70708E88, you would enter Start: 70707E88 and End: 70709E88. You should now have a window full of hex in Filex.
  6. In Filex open the project menu and select Save as, put this someplace where pathing to it will be easy with the value of SRR0: ex. Save as RAM: 70708E88-Q3crash.bin.
  7. VDAPPC is included in the Sonnetlib distribution, we'll assume you put it in C: Open a CLI window and enter: vdappc RAM:70708E88-Q3crash.bin >RAM:70708E88-q3crash.txt Note:vdappc requires explicit paths, if you do not specify RAM:{filename} it will try to disassemble the contents of your current directory resulting in a gigantic file which will use all memory until it crashes
  8. You should now have three files you've created, the Sonnet Exception, the dump from FileX and the disassembly from vdappc. Post/Email/Fax/Print and mail via certified letter to Hedeon.
