Looking good. Seems like links are now hidden which is good, but "back" buttons are still discoverable. For example, navigating to Shoes, All, when navigating backward I can still reach the visually hidden "Shoes" |

Hey Ken, I tested this with voice over and its working. One thing I noticed was that when I opened the navigation for the 3rd or 4th time, the menu drawer still has the Video mobile-submenu-_a11y.mp4 |

Thanks for catching that @andrewetchen 👍 . I wasn't cleaning up the classes when the main drawer toggle was closed. Should be ready for another look. |

Everything is working great on my end. I didn't encounter any issues with the submenu-open class being added or removed 👍🏼

we need to run a check if the parentMenuElement exist prior to this cause the menu-drawer custom element is also used for the facet filter drawer. And since it doesn't have those same classes, it's throwing errors when using it:

So actually this raises a good point. Is this a11y issue applicable to the facets drawer as well? It does seem to have the same issue as the mobile nav where the virtual cursor can end up on the parent menu. @svinkle?
If this is something we'd also like to account for I'll probably add a generic class to the necessary elements in each component for the query selectors to target.

Yes. A quick test reveals this same issue also exists for the facets drawer.

@ludoboludo what do you think of this approach? I'm using a shared has-submenu class name in the liquid to denote which elements should potentially receive the hidden treatment so I don't have to specifically target the proper elements in each component 8f6a8f4

This looks good to me. Tested with VO and accessibility tree. For context, this is how the accessibility tree looked before these changes.

What approach did you take?
As recommended in the ticket I've achieved this using
visibility: hiddenon the parent menu of the currently active submenu. I'm toggling a class calledsubmenu-openon the parent list element whenever a child submenu is opened or closed. Probably doesn't matter that much, but I'm flexible on the class naming if anyone has strong opinions. I also consideredmenu-hiddenandhas-open-submenu.Testing steps/scenarios
Navigate through various levels of the mobile nav with a screen reader active. Ensure menu items from the previously viewed menus aren't discoverable.
