This is CacheSim, a cache simulator developed by Insomniac Games. In its current form it simulates an AMD Jaguar cache configuration. It requires a 64-bit Windows machine to work. It has been tested on Windows 8, 8.1 and 10, but may require tweaking to run on your particular version of Windows.
For more information on how CacheSim was developed and how it works internally, you can check out this GDC 2017 slide deck.
The talk is available on the GDC vault with full video as well.
- Clone this project
git submodule init
git submodule update
The latter two commands will fetch Google Test which is required to build the unit tests.
You'll need the following:
- Visual Studio 2015
- CMake
- Qt 5.7 or later
To build CacheSim:
- Launch the Qt command line environment
- CD into the CacheSim directory
- Create a
build
directory:mkdir build
- Change into this build directory:
cd build
- Run
cmake -G "Visual Studio 14 2015 Win64" ..
start CacheSim.sln
to open the solution and build in Visual Studio
Note that the only supported build configuration is 64-bit (x64). Bug reports about missing 32-bit support will be ignored.
