Currently the classes are separated at 1.5 m. With the Microtransat rules limiting boats to 2m, this length choice appears rather random. There are many interesting alternative options:

  • Microsailboats: All boats that may also participate in the microtransat
  • no classes: so far no team has chosen their boat size based on competition value, this is typically define by rather different limiting factors, like other application goals, travel cost, and storage space
  • MaxiMOOP
  • Nano sailboats: Only limitation is that the boat has to fit into hand luggage of $airplane company (maybe we can get a company to sponsor ;) ) seriously though: For flexible operations, or swarms of robots, storage and transport space is a significant factor, so boats designed on space restrictions of some sort may be a very interesting challenge!
