Welcome to the the_hatch wiki!

the_hatch is a Java application created by Will Szabo. It is equal parts fun and equal parts practical.

The program emulates the Swan Station console from the hatch, made famous by the popular TV Series LOST. When the program starts an alarm begins counting down. From the time the alarm triggers the user has 4 minutes to enter the infamous numbers from the TV series, 4 8 15 16 23 42. If the numbers are not entered precisely right, the alarm will continue counting down. If and when the numbers are entered correctly, the user will know because the numbers will go away, and the alarm will reset. Just as in the show, the timer will count down from 108 minutes, when the timer hits the 4-minute mark the alarm starts going off, signaling that the user again has just 4 minutes to enter the numbers correctly. If they fail to do so, a pocket of electromagnetic energy will be released, ending the world.

Will created the program, one, because he loves LOST and it's just fun, and two because he had a bad habit of sitting for too long while working at his desk and not getting up to move often enough. He set up a dedicated computer that solely runs this program, forcing him to get up from his desk and move every 104 minutes to get the alarm to reset, SEE, equal parts fun and practical. Feel free to use this as Will did for a reminder to get up and move every 104 minutes or have fun with it, adapt it, and make it your own. Also, using it during LOST watch parties is encouraged!!!
