What's New in v3.33.0

3D Redesign — Circular Robot + Modern Articulated Hands

  • NEW: Circular spherical head — the robot's head is now a smooth sphere instead of a box
    • Clean circular silhouette from every angle
    • Modern MeshPhysicalMaterial with clearcoat gloss and metalness for a premium robotic shell
    • Subtle wireframe edge glow replaces sharp box edges
    • Eyes, mouth, and back panel reprojected onto the curved sphere surface
    • Circular back panel with ring glow and repositioned camera lens + antenna
  • NEW: Modern articulated hands — complete hand rebuild
    • 4 fingers + thumb (up from 3 box fingers) with anatomical proportions
    • Capsule phalanges (cylinder + sphere caps) for smooth rounded finger segments
    • Knuckle joint spheres at each finger joint for articulation detail
    • Rounded sphere palm (replaces flat box palm)
    • MeshPhongMaterial with emissive glow for a modern neon look
  • NEW: Finger curl animation — all 17 gestures now drive per-finger curling
    • Each finger has proximal + distal joint groups that rotate independently
    • Anatomical DIP/PIP joint ratios for natural-looking finger bending
    • Smooth interpolation (8x/second lerp) for natural motion
    • Gesture-specific curl: FIST (all curled), POINT (index extended), PEACE (V sign), THUMBS_UP (thumb up), OPEN (all extended), etc.

Voice Pipeline Freeze Fixes

  • FIX: 3D robot no longer freezes during voice chat
    • Removed premature robotSetState("idle") that was overriding the talking state immediately after displayAndSpeakVoiceReply()
    • Robot now stays in talking state until TTS actually finishes
  • FIX: Talking state now tied to actual TTS completion via UtteranceProgressListener
    • Replaces the fixed 5-second timeout that was clearing the talking animation early/late
    • onDone/onError callbacks reset the robot to idle exactly when speech finishes
  • FIX: Client-side watchdog timeout (45s) for voice pipeline thinking state
    • Prevents permanent freeze if the backend hangs or is slow
    • Resets robot to idle and informs the user
  • FIX: Non-voice TTS (reminders, thought bubbles) no longer interferes with voice pipeline state

Backend Fixes

  • FIX: chat_with_llm now returns Err on HTTP errors instead of Ok with an error string
    • Previously a 503/500/429 from the primary LLM was returned as Ok(("[LLM error: 503]", ...))
    • This skipped provider fallback and spoke the error string to the user
    • Now returns Err, so the fallback provider is tried, and if all fail, a proper error message is returned
  • FIX: Unescaped double quotes in system prompt strings (chat.rs, bedrock.rs) that prevented compilation
  • NEW: 5 simulation tests for backend error handling (503, 500, 429, success, empty choices)

Features

  • Three.js WebView robot renderer on Android with rich 3D animations
  • Auto-TTS for AI chat responses and thought bubbles
  • Voice input: double-tap robot to record, tap again to think
  • Single-tap robot to open chat box (text input)
  • Long-press robot for Settings/Standby/Schedule/Notes menu
  • Live transcription on speech bubble during voice recording
  • Native hand tracking with front camera + pinch gesture to drag robot
  • Streaming chat with tool execution
  • SQLite/JSONL persistent memory across sessions
  • Proactive speech bubbles at user-adjustable intervals
