  1. Set the errno as the error number that a pthread function returns

    The pthread library does not set the errno variable upon error. The
    error code is returned by the function instead.
    
    Without the patch, the following error message may occur:
    "FATAL: Terminating the checkpoint thread failed. errno = 0 (Success)"
    
    With the patch:
    "FATAL: Terminating the checkpoint thread failed. errno = 3 (No such process)"
