It looks like the obo flat file format parsers (go, so but will be more soon) are highly fragile.

These should be replaced with obo json loaders. For specs, see https://github.com/geneontology/obographs

@cmungall I took a look thru the doc - can you point me to a downloadable or api accessible version of GO in JSON format? Is it going to be here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B8kRPmmvPJU3blBSQXZSb0tyaDA ?
