To download and run a Lex program in C, follow these steps:

Install a Lex Compiler (Flex):

  • On Linux: Open a terminal and use your package manager to install Flex. For example, on Ubuntu, run sudo apt-get install flex.

  • On macOS: You can install Flex using package managers like Homebrew. Run brew install flex.

  • On Windows: You can use tools like Cygwin or WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) to install and run Flex.

Write Your Lex Program:

Create a file with a .l extension, such as example.l, and write your Lex program in it.

Generate C Code from Lex Program:

In the terminal, navigate to the directory containing your .l file and run the following command to generate the C code from the Lex program:

Copy code: flex example.l This will generate a lex.yy.c file.

Compile C Code:

Use a C compiler to compile the generated C code. For example, if you're using GCC, run:

Copy code: gcc lex.yy.c This will create an executable named lexer.

Run the Lex Program:

Execute the compiled program in the terminal by running: ./a.exe

This will start the lexer and allow you to input text to be tokenized based on the rules you defined in your Lex program.
