@cdeil reminded me that the naming scheme package_name/package_name.py is discouraged in favor of package_name/core.py. Should we make this change?

Yup, this is probably a holdover form when I first started. Let me know if you don't have time to do it, but I'll hold off on any other commits until it is done.
