Getting Started
This guide will walk you through installing and configuring sextant, and setting up your first expedition.
- Download VoiceAttack
- Install .NET 4.6.1 if you don't already have it installed
- Download Sextant.vax from the latest release
- Place
Sextant.vax
inside the Voice Attack Import folder, the full path should beC:\Program Files (x86)\VoiceAttack\Apps\Import
- Launch Voice Attack -- it will automatically import the Sextant Profile.
Note: If you've installed Voice Attack from steam, your path will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\VoiceAttack\Apps\
- Install .NET 4.6.1 if you don't already have it installed
- Download the latest .zip release of Sextant
- Extract the entire zip file into a folder named
Sextant
in the Apps directory of Voice Attack, the full path should beC:\Program Files (x86)\VoiceAttack\Apps\Sextant
- You'll need to manually set up a Voice Attack profile to support Sextant commands. See Setting up Sextant Commands from Voice Attack
Note: If you've installed Voice Attack from steam, your path will be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\VoiceAttack\Apps\
- Open the
settings.json
file fromC:\Program Files (x86)\VoiceAttack\Apps\Sextant\settings.json
with your preferred editor (such as notepad) - If you have a custom text-to-speech voice, edit the
Voice
setting underVoiceCommunicator
- Under the
GalaxyMapInteractor
section, you need to setup the correct keybinds you have in Elite, so that Sextant is able to open the galaxy map and search for systems
If you have your want to use the IVONA Amy voice, your settings file should look like this:
{
"JournalWatcher": {
"JournalDirectoryOverride": ""
},
"VoiceCommunicator": {
"Voice": "IVONA 2 Amy"
},
"GalaxyMapInteractor": {
"GalaxyMapKey": "t",
"NextUIPanelKey": "]",
"UISelectKey": " ",
"GalaxyMapOpenDelay": "2500",
"GalaxyMapUINavigateDelay": "1000"
},
"Preferences": {
"CommunicateSkippableSystems": "true"
"EnableSRVCommands": "false",
"OnlyCommunicateDuringExpedition": "true"
}
}
The default keybinds are as follows:
- Open Galaxy Map - T
- Next UI Panel - ]
- UI Select - Spacebar
With the Sextant zip file extracted to the VoiceAttack plugin directory, and the settings file updated, you are now ready to run Sextant.
- Once you have started you should hear one of the customizable startup lines, such as "Sextant Initialized" and see
Plugin 'Sextant v2.0' initialized
in voice attack.
If you do not hear the voice line or see the initialization text in VoiceAttack, it means VoiceAttack has not been able to load Sextant. Check that you have extracted the files to the correct folder, and run VoiceAttack as administrator.
- Once you load a game in Elite, you should hear "Welcome back Commander!" from Sextant
If you do not hear the voice line, it means that the JournalDirectory
setting is incorrectly configured, and Sextant will not be able to respond to in-game events, such as jumping or scanning a planet.
Sextant 2.0 will automatically prompt you in-game when it detects that you're taking a long journey -- simply target a system that you want to travel to and say "Take a detour".
If you want to manually import an expedition, you can follow these steps:
- Make sure you have VoiceAttack running with Sextant correctly initialized
- Plot a route using the Road to Riches web tool, make sure to check
Results in plain text
- Copy the entire route text to your clipboard
- Run the
plan_expedition
command through voice attack, to tell Sextant to import the route data - Sextant should respond with
Expedition plotted. Route consists of x systems with y planets.
as well as giving a breakdown of the number of planets and systems in the route, and the types of planets
