sam local start-api unworkably slow

Steps to reproduce the issue:

1. sam init --runtime go1.x --name go-sam-sanity (using default hello world template)
2. make
3. sam local start-api

Observed result:

5s to run a hello world?!

Expected result:

A fast workable local development workflow

• SAM CLI, version 1.2.0
• Archlinux using latest packages
• https://s.natalian.org/2020-09-12/main.go reduced complexity is still 3s https://s.natalian.org/2020-09-12/slow.png

Thanks for reporting this issue, however I am not able to reproduce this issue. I tried to reproduce this issue on my macbook as well as on Arch linux image ami-0d663b9cafcc1af61. Please see the latency details below:

Macbook

[arch@ip-172-31-16-6 ~]$ time curl http://127.0.0.1:3000/hello
{"message":"Internal server error"}

real    0m0.935s
user    0m0.006s
sys     0m0.000s

In both tests above the first run was slow because sam-cli tried to build the image on local which was not available. But second and all runs after that were pretty fast for me. On Arch linux I tried with docker version 20.10.8 and sam-cli version 1.32.0. Is it possible for you to confirm that you are facing this issue with latest version of docker and sam-cli available?
