The goal of this project is to create a working Linux image for a particular and $30 cheap Amlogic Android TV Box and to fully document and describe the process of it as well as to somehow facilitate that everyone can install and use this image no matter their technical expertise. The box I am currently working with is the X86 Max Plus. This image will turn the box into all of the following:
- A mediacenter / TVbox with real Linux Desktop Environment
- A small PC good enough to run Libreoffice, browse the web, read PDFs or email and so forth
- A server to host your website, email, data, fediverse and other services via Yunohost
Yunohost is a sort of fully fledged web-GUI appstore thing for server applications. It makes it very easy for endusers to set up and manage what they need. Pair this with your modern 100Mbit or 1000Mbit line at home and such a $30 box might provide even higher bandwidth than mid-range servers, and similar compute power to a cheap vserver.
- ❌ download the image
- ❌ community infrastructure to have image flashed
- ❌ crash course on tv boxes for computer clubs / tech savvy friends
- ❌ instructions to flash image without help
- ✅ create a bootable Linux image of any distribution
- ❌ configuring distribution: speedups, etc.
- ❌ autoscripts for Yunohost
- ✅ Video acceleration in browser
- ✅ Bug: colors distorted, looks like a green/pink negative image
- ❌ No sound
- ❌ Screen tearing
- ❌ Wifi not working
