Toad does not report when limits are hit

When you hit the limit of your chosen plan, toad seems to just sit there spinning endlessly. If you didn't set TOAD_LOG at start you don't seem to have any way to know when you are in this state because you don't have the log? Ideally it would report back in the UI that you've hit your limits so you're not wondering whether or not it is still thinking or it's being limited.

Maybe I'm missing something that indicates when you're in this state. This may also be a feature request and not a bug.

Toad should report when usage limits are hits with a friendly message. If it is still spinning, it suggests that the agent isn't returning. What agent are you using?

If you run toad about or the slash command, there is an entry under paths that tells you where your logs are stored.

I'm using claude and I followed the prompt to download both claude as well as the ACP adapter. Good to know about toad about! I'll leverage that in the future. Here is the dump from toad about

I see in the logs it does report that the agent has reached its max limit:

What kind of message should I be on the lookout for? I haven't any visual indicator to the user. I see the rainbow band at the top continue to spin. I took a screenshot between where I left off yesterday and started today (toad about). Right where the last Edit occurs it gets stuck and I get no further feedback.

That tells me Claude is raising an JSONRPC exception.

What should happen is that the agent returns a response like this:

Then Toad knows to write some friendly output.

I think this is an error in Claude code ACP adapter. It might be worth raising the issue there.

Toad probably should catch those errors, and reset the turn. The message is wrong in an ACP context, so I'll need to think about what to tell the user.

As luck would have it, I ran out of Claude tokens.

I'm confident this is a flaw in the ACP adapter with Claude. But I have added an error message when this happens. I did have to show an error message that is intended for the developer, which I'm not entirely happy about, but without it, the user has no context.
