For project directory /home/caleb/projects/sile my .gitigore file has a single line entry for sile to ignore generated file /home/caleb/projects/sile/sile. This rule is parsed by this library to ignore everything in that folder.

The parent folder should not be part of the matching. Stop at the git root.
