Growing Object-Oriented Software Guided by Tests - Coding along the lines of the book’s example.
This project follows the example developed in the book Growing Object-Oriented Software Guided by Tests by Steve Freeman and Nat Pryce.
The book’s example code needs a JDK version 8 or higher. All further java dependencies are managed by Maven.
Prior to running integration tests, a docker image needs to be built locally - the bash script docker-openfire/build_image.sh
does that for you,
it creates a Docker image goos-openfire that installs and configure an Openfire server.
Integration tests rely on the existence of the aforementioned image and make use of Testcontainers library which provides throwaway instances of Openfire.
The build distinguishes between two different kinds of tests:
-
Unit tests: fast running tests. They are executed using:
./mvnw test
-
Integration tests: Acceptance tests that once have driven development and now have to stay stable. They are designed to be as much end-to-end as possible, drive the UI directly and go through the whole stack, down to the Openfire chat server. They are run with the command:
./mvnw verify
