Build subi app ############################################################################# Basic Installation Installation instructions are useful for all users so they are kept online at: http://janus.northwestern.edu/subi We will not repeat them here to avoid the maintenance overhead. ############################################################################# Build If you are a developer you might want to build the working app after changing code. The following should help. Dependencies You will need the following tools to work on subi. Python 2.7 setuptools # for any build py2exe # to build windows exe py2app # to build mac app git # to work with files a computer with no server # an existing server disrupts our temp server with admin access # to setup a server we need admin access Build and Run Subi Follow the following steps to build the subi app. 0. (optional) Update setup.py If you have changed code you may need to update this file open setup.py in a text browser and follow its code. 1. Start in subi directory e.g. cd subi/ 2. Remove previous build lines rm -rf build/ dist/ 3. Build the app (for mac) python setup.py py2app # Add -A to use source files (for windows) python setup.py py2exe # Add -A to use source files 4. Launch subi server (for mac) sudo dist/Subi.app/Contents/MacOS/Subi (for windows) dist/subi.exe ############################################################################# Tests Automated tests A suite of tests is baked into the db layer. These will kill the existing database. They can be run by calling the script directly with python. python scripts/subi_db.py Manual tests Testing the UI is a manual process that should be performed cross browser.
