Welcome to the bmep wiki!
Although the code was designed for output from the MOSDEF 2D reduction code, it should be able to reduce output from the MOSFIRE DRP as well. It should also be possible to use this to extract data from any (rectified) 2d spectra.
Here is a screenshot of the program in action. The IDL window is in the bottom left, the 2D spectra is the top image, and the extracted spectrum is in the bottom right. The 2D spectrum is shown twice: The bottom is the actual data, and the top is a signal-to-noise image cut so that anything below 2 is black. This lets me pick out emission line features. The weighting profile is shown in the top of the plot window. The horizontal red line is the background. The vertical, white, dashed lines show the center and left and right limits of where the program will extract the spectrum. The bottom plot shows the extraction. The data is in white, where you clicked on the 2D spectrum are the vertical red lines, and the green lines show where we expect features based on prior information for MOSDEF spectra. (I made the plot numbers larger by doing !p.charsize=2.5
before running BMEP.)
