Synopsis

On the quest to engineer the perfect cup of coffee. We've been on this journey since early 2000's when I graduated, left my carpentry career behind and immersed myself in creating and breaking technology. This act lead me to a life long apprenticeship of studying and mastering the black arts of technical architecture, software engineering then breaking it all. This of course meant that long after most sane people have called it quits for the night, We're getting into the zone. In order to maintain a lifestyle like this for years on end (staying in the zone for as long as possible), stimulants (C8H10N4O2) are essential. So why not enjoy rather than endure the cup?

As part of this journey I've exposed myself to many good Barista's, learnt many techniques, and have explored many tools of the trade.

Our current set-up is:

Roaster: Kaffelogic Nano 7
Grinder: Mazzer Mini
Espresso Machine: Vibiemme Domobar Super Lever (Vibiemme is the creator of the patented E-61 grouphead)

The Journey

There were many tooling steps along the way, this is a journey that keeps evolving. You don't need to have expensive tools in order to create great coffee in the cup. A great Barista with minimal tooling can achieve excellent results. The same can not be said for someone that doesn't know what they're doing but has expensive tooling.

Todo: Discus this journey, the steps/learnings and tools along the way.

  • 7 minutes (second crack) should yield medium roast
  • 7:30 - 8:00 should yield darker roast
