Though I believe users should also be able to label posts even if they're just Text, as text can still be pretty 18+ or simply intended for that audience, having some way to do this could be useful

This. It's my favorite feature on Mastodon. Sometimes people aren't in the mood for heavy things and would rather not see it. Social media can be a mental burden at times, but the CW feature can ease the burden for a lot of people.
In addition to marking heavy content, this would be useful for hiding spoilers. Currently, I see people start a post with "(series-name-here spoilers)", have a few blank lines (or lines with just a period), and then put the spoiler there. Unfortunately, it is very easy to inadvertently glance at the actual spoiler and get spoiled.
