Describe the Feature

I'm thinking of something like an icon to denote that an account is from an official government domain.

Examples of government domains:

  • US: .gov and .mil
  • Many countries: .gov.[two letter country code]
  • Japan: .go.jp

This isn't a complete list, obviously.

I'm intentionally not proposing further for now, though there are both official and unofficial lists of domains. The closest I found to a multi-country registry is this repo but it's years out of date.

Additional Context

My concern: https://bsky.app/profile/dead-claudia.bsky.social/post/3lbgyq54nhs2c

This would help deter scammers from posing as government agencies by squatting on similar-looking domains like usa.got or gpv.uk and catching inattentive people (especially seniors with poor vision, who might not immediately see the difference).
