Can I open and edit spreadsheets (if I have the read/write rights) that have been approved for me by someone else?

with
sht2 = gc.open_by_url('https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Bm...FE&hl')

without using gc = gspread.login('thedude@abid.es', 'password')...

Yes, it should work as long as this is not a public spreadsheet.
