KICK community v0.1.5 - recording, instruments and project workflows
Windows x64 and Linux x86_64 community prerelease with the accumulated timing, instrument, mixer, audio and project workflow repairs. Earlier tags and downloads are preserved.
- Record MIDI with distinct REC replace / OVERDUB behavior, saved count-in and a generated metronome fallback. Apply Timing Correct, swing and editable meters; use Tap Tempo, Note Repeat/Latch, velocity 16 Levels and fixed Full/Half Level. Correct step-page editing, transport reset and sequence-end handling.
- Connect drum/keygroup filters, amplitude/filter/pitch envelopes and LFOs to saved controls. Layer overlapping keygroup zones with independent release ownership and voice limits. Expose velocity bounds; correct source-rate assignment, gain/pan and modulation phase handling.
- Connect all MIDI CC sliders, KEY TRACK, return/output solo, mixer Q-links and a selected-output sample-peak limiter. Program solo now uses object membership and immediately gates sustained output.
- Route selected audio inputs to ARM/MONITOR and bounded one-pass audio recording. Commit checked 24-bit WAV takes after count-in; preserve outside audio during undoable REC replacement and add overlapping takes with OVERDUB.
- Play timed regions on independent track clocks. Use Pencil, Copy/Paste, Split/Cut, mute/level/reverse/tuning/fades and all seven audio automation lanes. Preserve source bounds and fade timing across edits; restore manual send levels on stop.
- Apply new-project tempo, meter, bars, sequence/track counts and musical key. Restore per-project autosave settings without opening Preferences and keep preference saving independent. Replace XML through a checked temporary file; reject corrupt loads before closing the current project.
- Honor Selector / New Project / Last Used launch policies, avoid name collisions and retain the selector for missing last projects. Detach stale track controls before project close; fix input notification duplication and editor/signal lifetime errors.
- Update the README, manual and capability inventory. The 166 groups now comprise 130 Present, 19 Partial, 15 Missing and two Unverified, including eight community extensions. The inventory describes implemented paths and is not a hardware completion percentage.
Validation (2026-10-29): 496 engine checks pass on Windows Debug, AddressSanitizer and no-ASIO Release, and native Linux Release. Both layouts pass 23 audio-workflow, 15 instrument, 16 program/mixer and 25 timing/control UI checks on all four configurations. Separate-process project/startup checks pass all four launch cases, restored autosave, name collisions and visible-project close (21 assertions plus five fixture checks per configuration). The existing 71-check MIDI/controller/startup suites pass on Windows ASan/Release and Linux. All nine broader UI cases pass on Windows Release and Linux, including three panel runs at 227 assertions each. All final test processes exit 0 with no AddressSanitizer reports. Windows/native Linux contents match across 131 changed C++ files, two CMake files and the community version file after line-ending normalization. The final public-load directory guard was checked with the 26-test project suite on all four configurations after the full regression runs; it rejects a directory collision before closing the active project.
Remaining work includes sample Pitch Shift/Time Stretch/Bit Reduce and BPM tools, rendered bounce/Song export and Song-to-Sequence, global automation capture, pitch-based 16 Levels/repeated Pad Perform chords, audio WARP, XY FX, pad-specific routing/meters, quantized mutes and resource/device acceptance. Timing follows the existing tick/audio-block path; sample accuracy and physical ARM/CV/MIDI/USB/updater behavior are not certified. See the inventory and repair records for specific limits.
KICK community v0.1.4 - MIDI learn and input fixes
MIDI controller mapping comes to the Windows and Linux community simulators, with eight input/startup fixes and faster MIDI filtering.
- Right-click panel controls for Learn MIDI, or enable MIDI LEARN to map several controls. Press Esc to finish.
- Map pads, buttons/alternate commands, Q-links, jog/Enter and touch strip. Supports absolute and relative CCs, trigger buttons, pad velocity and pressure.
- Save per-controller/channel mappings across restart and layout changes. The MIDI menu lists inputs/mappings and provides remove, bypass and release controls.
- Repair note/sustain releases, held Shift, cancelled learning, reserved commands, encoder limits, disconnect handling and early startup/shutdown.
- Compact MIDI batches in one pass. Checked 4,096-event filtering medians: 10.690 ms before, 0.096 ms after; filtering only.

KICK community v0.1.2 - hardware panel and playback fixes
This unofficial community prerelease adds the vector KICK panel and fixes playback and Browser audition. The Windows application and file-version resource both identify this build as 0.1.2.
- Hardware / Original layouts: saved toolbar choice; live pads, buttons, Q-links, jog/Enter, touch strip and LEDs; state and open dialogs follow layout changes.
- Playback and DSP: independent silent voice frames, fractional loop seams, source ownership/replacement, mono Modular effects/tails and exact coefficient caching.
- Live audition: fix the reproduced render/load race, retained mute, muted progression and missing files replaying old audio.
- Documentation: maintainer disclaimer at the top of the README, updated manual with panel screenshot, release notes, functionality inventory and reproducible packaging instructions.
Validation: full Debug and AddressSanitizer engine suites 264/264 each; Release optimization regressions 21/21; panel checks 227/227 for default, saved-preference restart and Original override; audit UI 5/5; Audio settings, popup selection in both layouts, instrument and Modular smoke tests. The extracted archive is also checked before publication.
Download KICK-Simulator-v0.1.2-win64.zip, extract the whole archive, and run KT_KickEM.exe. Keep assets, templates and demos alongside it. Choose a Windows audio device in Settings > Audio. ASIO/SDK, personal preferences and commercial sample kits are excluded. The .sha256 asset verifies the ZIP; BUILD-INFO.json identifies the exact source revision.
The base firmware is still incomplete. Tap Tempo/Note Repeat, parts of Timing Correct and audio export, XY FX and other gaps remain documented in the inventory. MASTER/REC remain analog visual references. Physical CV/MIDI/USB/UART/update behavior, Linux recovery and ARM timing are not certified by Windows tests.
See the manual, release notes and source.
KICK community build v0.1.1 (audit fixes)
This community Windows simulator build repairs the audit findings across playback, sample editing, UI lifetimes, MIDI handling and update-file parsing.
- Fix stuck notes, sustain/retrigger ordering, first-tick playback, ratchets, live routing and reverse sample playback.
- Preserve sample edits and undo/redo through checked file replacement; prevent preset-name collisions.
- Add MIDI-input clock selection, sampler Clear/Export and song MIDI export.
- Repair stale UI callbacks, empty mixer/table handling and asynchronous folder-size/recording-thumbnail work.
- Harden firmware/UART parsers and USB staging. Physical-device update acceptance and ARM timing remain pending.
Validation: Debug and AddressSanitizer engine suites each passed 243/243. The packaged Release build passed the audit (5/5), audio settings, instrument and Modular simulator checks. ASIO is disabled; personal preferences and commercial sample libraries are excluded.
Extract the entire Windows zip and run KT_KickEM.exe inside its folder. This is a desktop simulator, not a hardware firmware image. The corrected filter-envelope formula can change affected drum patches' sound.

KICK community build v0.1.0 (Windows simulator)
An unofficial community build of the Behringer KICK firmware for Windows. It includes a front-panel simulator, so you can play it without the hardware. It is not an official Behringer / MUSIC Tribe release.
Try it
Download KICK-Simulator-v0.1.0-win64.zip below, unzip it anywhere and run KT_KickEM.exe. If you hear nothing, choose your output under PREFS → Audio. README.txt in the zip covers the panel controls and how to start a Modular synth track.
What's in this build
- Simulator: every button, the pads (click height = velocity; drag up while holding = pressure), the Q-links, the jog wheel and the touch strip, with PC keyboard shortcuts.
- Instrument programs with the Modular synth engine:
- 14 modules: oscillators with unison, filters including a ladder, Formant, Ring Mod, envelopes, LFOs and more;
- cables, four effect slots (delay, chorus, reverb, saturator) and an arpeggiator;
- Mono/Legato with glide, tempo sync, pressure, macros on the Q-links;
- 22 presets, and saving your own.
- Pad recording into sequences, and REC on the Sampler.
- System Resources shows real CPU, RAM and storage figures.
- Many crash and UI fixes. The user manual covers it all.
Not included / known limits
- No ASIO. This build uses Windows Audio (WASAPI) and DirectSound. If you build from source, you can enable ASIO with your own copy of the Steinberg SDK.
- No sample kits beyond the factory templates and demos.
- Pad pressure has only been tested in the simulator, not on KICK hardware.
- The arpeggiator's clock starts with the first note held; it doesn't follow the song position yet.
Source and licence
AGPL-3.0, the same as the original source. This release was built from tag v0.1.0 of this repository. Third-party licences are listed in THIRD-PARTY.md in the zip.
