Eidos's primary purpose is to extract Causal relation mentions from text, under the (loose) assumption that "anything can cause anything." The primary output, accordingly, are these relations. However, due to popular demand, Eidos can also output found Concepts (noun or verb phrases) that don't participate in Causal relations. Since there are far more of these than are useful (again, because it's all the noun or verb phrases in the corpus), we limit what we output to Stateful mentions. Specifically, we can keep and output any Concept that has one or more:

  • Increase (...the increase in drought prevalence...)
  • Decrease (...low food supply...)
  • Quantifier (...significant rainfall...)
  • PositiveAffect (...improved labor supply...)
  • NegativeAffect (...worsened standard of living...)

These are expanded (see here for details). If you want to disable these, you can modify the eidos.conf to have:

`EidosSystem.keepStatefulConcepts = false`
