According to:

libteam support is being removed in C10S. We should probably consider the implications for FCOS.

We added it in coreos/fedora-coreos-config#289

TBH I doubt many people would be using it so if we need to remove support from FCOS I think it wouldn't be the end of the world.

I wonder:

  • will it be removed from upstream or from Fedora?
  • even if it isn't removed from upstream or from Fedora should we consider removing it from FCOS?

This item was discussed in today's community meeting :

will it be removed from upstream or from Fedora?

even if it isn't removed from upstream or from Fedora should we consider removing it from FCOS?

<@dustymabe:matrix.org> in the case of 1. we have no decision to make here - just action for when it happens
<@dustymabe:matrix.org> in the case of 2. we'd need to decide that
<@dustymabe:matrix.org> maybe let's find out the answer to 1. first and then we can discuss 2. ?

<@jbtrystram:matrix.org> !action ravanelli to contact the libteam maintainers to figure out if they intend to drop the package from fedora

Suggested plan of action:

  1. Send an announcement to the coreos-status mailing list and other communication places to ask for users and warn on planned removal in Fedora 41 if no answer before Fedora 41 Beta freeze date
  2. Write a CLHM & do the manifest changes
  3. Announce the removal as part of Fedora 41 Beta rebase in next

libteam support is removed in CentOS Stream 10. Move packages related to
this support to a Enterprise Linux 9 only manifest to prepare for that
removal.

Just updating it here with the answer I got back from the libteam :

The removal of libteam is only targeting c10s and rhel-10. Actually this commit is already merged upstream: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/-/merge_requests/1921/diffs?commit_id=bc73478a49b22131dfe278b1b9801ac5b0702617.
Also, based on this comment: https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-22999?focusedId=23924774&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#commen[…]924774 libteam will not be removed from Fedora.
