What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install HBB on USB
2. Download and install SMW via HBB
3. Start SMW
4. Dumps (because assumes SD)

What would be required to get this working on USB drive (rather than SD)?

I've already written the code, but it's only usb 1.0 which isn't fast enough,
it
would need usb 2.0 support which I won't add until it doesn't require a cIOS

I'm certain you'll know far better than I...

The Homebrew Browser runs fine off a USB drive (and has specific settings to
enable
and facilitate it) and doesnt use a cIOS correct?

Are you certain cIOS is needed for USB 2? I know all the stuff on WiiBrew.org
is
very anti piracy/"backups"/etc and would be surprised if they endorsed it if
this
were the case.

My apologies as well, I just noticed that the page was filtered such that only
open
issues were displaying and I didnt see that there have been similar questions
asked
already.

I'm still curious though about how the rest of homebrew works on USB/HD.

Just saw that "tantric" is the author (perhaps that is "you" as well). I
imagine
(given other work) it would've been figured out if such an easy problem. My
apologies.

Be well.
